Landing on the AK Highway proved to be no problem. Nice RCMP and no hasssles no headaches. One more thing, storms can and do move to the west. Not sure if mountains have anything to do with it.

I landed on the Highway at the Highland River Bridge in '01. Got caught between Watson Lake and Ft. Nelson with nowhere else to go. Another SC landed about 10 miles east at the same time. Had a nice visit with the Mounties. I asked "do you guys take action against people who land on the highway?" He said "What? For saving your own life?" They sure are helpful up there!

That is so cool...I can only imagine what about 75% of the state troopers in the states would do. Some ding dong bureaucrat would make you take it apart and crate it off the highway.

I have been helped by the RCMP on various occasions. Including rides to hotels while ferrying planes through Canada. They are a good bunch of folks and every one of them will make a comment about some of the odd Canadian laws.

They can drink from my canteen anytime...

I've had a couple experiences with the Mounties, including when I wrecked my 12 in British Columbia. The were VERY courteous, stored our stuff (including firearms) at their station, and took us to a hotel AND came inside with us to be sure we got a room ok. I have, without exception, found them proud of their public service. On the other hand, government officials here in the US often seem a bit jealous of their power, or at least a little more officious in their manner. Based on my experiences, I have nothing but good thoughts for the Mounties. Same goes for Canadian Customs Officers as compared to their US counterparts. All this is just from my limited experiences, probably a couple doz trips to/through Canada.

My wife got her car broken into in Whitehorse a couple years ago and she doesn't have anything good to say about the Mounties. Maybe they didn't like her out-of-state plates!

Two or three years ago I was driving up the Price River Canyon, Highway 6, north of Price Utah and came upon the road blocked by two snow plows. What appeared to be a Stinson taxied onto the highway and took off. No police to be seen anywhere.

Hey gander, I hear your comment, but I am not a Texan, I am an American.

I have lived in 9 states, traveled in 45 of them, and traveled in more than 20 foreign nations on four continents and the more places I go, the more I find that the stereotypes that some people use to define others are not only wrong but ignorant. Every place I have ever been has had some nice folks and every place I have ever been has had some idiots.

At the time we had Alaska plates, and were moving from Alaska where I had been living for the past three-plus years. So I don't think the fact that I now live in Texas had anything to do with it.

slowmover, they probably fell the same as most alaskans about texans

I spend about equal time in both states. I question the term 'most Alaskans'. I've not heard anything terribly negative about Texans. Just the usual jokes about Texas being the third largest state after Alasaka splits in half.

In '01, skagwaypilot, Waa Dee, and I all flew our airplanes from Texas to Alaska for the summer (2 Super Cubs and a C180). I'll never forget the QB meeting that we attended in ANC. The entire night was spent swapping Texan and Alaskan jokes. We all had a ball, and made some great friends, some of whom we are still in contact with today. Our common interest in aviation, plus the pre-requisite that a QB has to be a "good guy", bridged any geographical preconceptions. What a great time! Burro Buddies to my Alaskan QB friends! :howdy

slowmover, no need to get upset just putting a little humor on the subject. i guess i have spent to much time in the oilfield.

Gander is right, no need to get upset. This Alaska/Texas rivalry is somewhat of an inside joke to Alaskans. The joke came about from the many pipeline workers from the Texas oilfields who came up in the mid 1970's to build our famous pipeline. Many Texans had somewhat of an attitude so we had to repsond in kind.....
