Flight Manual

Does anybody know what the flight manual for a PA18 should look like? The weight and balance envelopes are not in the 1953 POH so it does not qualify.

Thanks!

sj

The flight manual would be 2 pages, (one piece of paper typed front and back), that's all there ever was, and it should be kept in the plane at all times to stay legal.

Mark.........do you keep yours under your axe or wrapped around your gun?

Any idea what should be typed on these two pages, or where I can get the two pages that would apply to my airplane?

I can type two pages pretty quick....

sj

You need to get someone with the same model as you to copy and send you the pages. I have ones for the PA-18-150, PA18A-150 and PA-18-125.
But I think you have the military 105 special, so it would be different.

Don't know about the early PA18's but as for the PA12 there was no such thing as a "certified flight manual" only a operators handbook. and until the 80's it WAS NOT a required document. In lew of a manual the early planes used "PLACARDS" to identify the operating limitations.

I just went round and round with this and won!

Don't be suckered into the requirement to carry something other than what the manufacture had when he TC's the plane.

It appears that many STC's are confusing the issue as they often enclude a "flight manual supliment" that really isn't possible if none existed to begin with?

OH CRAP I probably started another can of worms! MD, Crash, jump on in!
I am out of here! Murph what the heck they do in Texas?

Tim

The PA-18 has a required flight manual.... It is of the same paper as the weight and balance. It is required equipment on all Super Cubs that I am familiar with. I am not familiar with the Military version of the 105 special, so this may be an exception.Could look in the Type Cert Data Sheets to find out. But all the Civilian Super cub models do have a required flight manual and it is required to be in the aircraft along with the weight and balance. :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:

I finally found mine, or rather, found them both. One for the 105 and one for the 125. It is very informative  .

Anyway, I have feds that want to fly my plane, so gotta get the paperwork in order!

sj

Feds

Let us know when the Feds are going to fly your plane. Whenever a Fed or Fish and Game agent gets in a plane I like to go somewhere safe like the bomb shelter I dug under my trailer. Gives me a chance to polish all my guns and load another 1000 rounds or so. Email me when it's safe to come out. Crash

Crash, call me on the "special frequency" that we have set up in the shelter?

SJ: Do you have a parachute in your plane? you might decide to exit and write off the trip a good experience? I will look forward to your after landing post?

Tim

Are you ever gonna get all your jets filled out Crash? Sittin' in the bomb shelter whilst the Feds skid and wallow about the skies aint gonna do it.

(actually I know one fishy and gamey type whose been flying cubs since he was 13 and has had his own since 1960. When ever I fly with him I'm tempted to give up my own pathetic attempts and go do something else)

Iam a newbie, don't know much about this

Thanks for info cubdriver! I am working myself around this site. Takes me awhile but I'll get it. Any ideas for insurance companies? Avemco wants $1345 a yr. ATP 28000 hrs, 50 in type ,no accidents. $100,000 accident, 1 million liability?

While I am hot on this site, whats your opinion on 1900 floats for this cub? They are in good shape no patches, 870hrs on them, guy wants $6500 for them?

FWIW I believe what is required to be on board the airplane is the "operating limitations".
All the operating limitations may or may not be in an owner's manual.
Most older airplanes have a one or two page "approved flight manual" or "airplane flight manual" with all the required information.
Usually these were factory issued right along with the W&B sheet, both with the airplane's tail number typed on, so they are aircraft specific. If you don't have one, hopefully you can scrounge a photocopy of one from another airplane of same make & model, and doctor it up with your own tail number.

The PK 1900 that were on my friends 150 SC with stock 7656 prop out performed any 150hp SC I've seen on 2000 with a seaplane prop

I haven't paid much attention to this, since most of it is 14 years old, but it needs to be said:

At least for the PA-18-150 and the PA-18-150A, you do have an Airplane Flight Manual, and it has to be in the aircraft. It is Piper Report 834.

It is at least nine pages long, and includes a section on weight and balance.

All you need to do is find a Xerox copy, put your serial number and N- Number on the front page, and amend the weight and balance and equipment list. All it takes is a ball point pen. Then keep a copy wrapped around whatever you want, and keep it in the airplane. Forever.

The caveat - it uses two different weight and balance systems. Choose one, and stick to it.

And if this is lost, you can order the CD of your aircraft records from the FAA. Then just print out your original on your printer. It will be on the CD. It's a wonder that any of these "operations limitations" forms have survived all these years. Even though the weight and balance portion may have been superseded the rest of the form is still valid and is a "MUST CARRY" item in the airplane.

I know I'm replying to an old thread but do you still have a copy of the Flight Manual sheets for a Pa-18 125? Thanks
