Fishing is getting down right dangerous these days.

Torch

GONE WEST
Fairbanks, Alaska
Flew out for some big fat trout fishing. The fishing was really great. Here is a trout that was about 25 inches long. I released the fish unharmed.

While I was minding my own dayum business I heard what I thought was a really big trout feeding nearby. I look up and there is that same black bear I posted pics of last week. He is swimming in the lake near the shore. Now I was doing that Nailbiter thang.

The bear starts walking down the shoreline away from me so now I am relieved. He keeps heading down the shoreline. Then I realize he is heading for TORCH II. Torch II is tied up on the beach about a half mile away. The bear is heading for TORCH II. Now I am doing the Nailbiter again.

I start the boat motor and try to head the bear off before he gets to Torch II and starts rearranging the airplane's parts. Bears have been known to destroy airplanes up here. I only have a two horse motor on a 15 foot fiberglass boat so I ain't moving very fast. The bear is peeping at me and running once in awhile. Mofo is racing for Torch II. I get to Torch II the same time the bear does and he isn't afraid of me showing up in the boat.

I think the animals of the world are out for us. This bruin keeps showing up in my fishing hole. Mofos mean to do us harm I am telling you.

Right about this time I am in the boat doing this again.

I yelled at the bear and he looks at me like WTF are you? He isn't afraid of me. So I pull my Super Cub org Concealed Carry WEAPON (Sig Sauer P220 .45) and pop a round off in the dirt to scare him off. He just looks at me like, Yeah Right do you know I am internet trained in the martial arts of CHUCK NORRIS? He walked off and disappeared over the top of a hill. He did take one last look back as if to say he would see me again. Next time I am inviting CHUCK NORRIS to go out there with me. I need some martial arts protecting. I think the animals of the world are out for us. Mofos mean to do us harm I am telling you.

What a beautiful place to be a bear (or a fisherman).

He needs to be afraid of the Torch, not your boat. Maybe an Army Surplus flamethrower mounted on your lift struts, with some Harbor Freight remote control gear. THEN the Torch would be very well named.

Burn his ass with a burst of napalm & HE'LL be the one biting his nails when that red bird turns final in his neighborhood.

Mike,

He was trying for a fish. I catch and release them. This bear will most likely be shot soon. There are cabins on that lake and I heard he has been visiting them already. The bear seems to be losing any fear of humans, if it had any. I don't mind them as long as they leave MY stuff alone.

You should try catch and release hunting...
on second though, just get a bigger gun :9mm
You know I have actually considered doing that. I was thinking of going Grizzly hunting with a paint ball gun. That way I get the enjoyment of hunting them and the Grizzly isn't hurt. It would be a great video. Chances are it would be a good video either way. I think about 90 pct of the Grizzlies out there would run after being hit with a paint ball. Be my luck to get the one that wants to kick my azz. I do believe it would be considered illegal to hunt grizzlies with a paint ball gun. I think they would ticket one for harassing the wildlife. Its okay to blow their guts out with a rifle but you cannot shoot them with a paint ball gun.

Yes just imagine the poor griz getting hazzed by his fellow bruins for being blue and red. He would most likely charge (no pun intended;-) you for humiliating him.

Torch,

Carry a 12 gauge with bean bag rounds. Nail him with one of those, and he'll pay attention, at least for a while.

Those babies hurt. You can buy them at Northern Security Supply in ANC.

Any place I can get those in Fairbank? I hate to see a bear get killed. This bear will get shot by some trigger happy person. He isn't afraid of humans but he doesn't seem to be aggressive either. Oftentimes people shoot bears just simply because they are close. My experience says 99 pct of them will move off and leave you alone. By shooting this guy with a bean bag I might do him a favor if he runs off. It would probably help this bear if he developed some fear of humans. He seemed really laid back. I was joking about him in the original post. I have been around a lot of bears and he just seems to be a laid back bear. Someone else took a pic of him and it was in the Fairbanks paper this week. Too many people have never seen a bear and they are convinced that if they do it will attack them. BS. This was the second time I have seen this guy. He is just a lazy black bear.

Torch:
Yep, them black bears are just cuddly little friendly lazy fellows. They don't mean you any harm. He is not aggressive. Yea, right!
You should check out Tim Treadwells videos. His Brown Bears were not aggressive and just regular fellows also. Them rubber bullets will surely put the fear of God in him! He will just leave your plane and go to the next suckers plane.
Bull Crap. Shot that sumbitch with a 338 before he chews your plane up or starts munching on your leg.
I think Will Rogers said, "I've never seen a man I didn't like." My take on that is, "I've never seen a Black Bear I didn't shoot!"
Tip...Black Bears are aggressive, stupid, and predators. They will attack and eat you if you give them a chance. Never trust a Black Bear. If you get a chance, look a Black Bear in the eyes, then look a Brown Bear in the eyes. You can see a major difference.
I've been cogitating about this for a few years. I figure God put Black Bears on earth so they would follow behind Brown Bears and clean up the scraps.
They are just big, black rats.
I'll be happy to shoot that sumbitch for you. Just give me a call. I love shootin them bastyards.
Their only redeeming factor, is their hide, makes a beautiful rug. :D
There you go, you Bunny huggers oughta have a ball with this post.

Torch,

I never found anyone in FAI with the bean bag rounds, but Northern Security should be able to ship them to you. THey're not cheap, by any means, but they are a good deterrent to have around.

If this guy is that friendly, his days are probably limited, but if nothing else, a good bean bag to the butt is good for entertainments sake. If that does nothing, then shoot him.

My guess is, he's a dead bear walking.

TORCH maybe YOU showed up at his fishing hole.
Just kidding.
I stopped by at OTZ the other day looking for you but you had already "gone fishing" maybe next time. :morning:

David,

Its seems to be my luck. I have had several folks come in looking for me both in Fairbanks and Kotzebue and each time it seems like I just barely miss them. One of the members from here was in OTZ this week. He was flying a DC6. He said hi when I issued him his IFR clearance to depart. Its always fun meeting members.

TJ,

I have only had to shoot one bear in 25 years in self defense. Yup, it was a black bear. I have been close to a bunch of them and most of them were not aggressive. At least to me. Maybe they know I am the TORCH.  I wouldn't turn my back on this guy but he seems to be fairly passive. That could change if he got real hungry. :o
