Could anyone give me some information on the 2500 federal whell skis .

Are they certified to be on a supercub?

How do they affect the performance?

Are they too large a ski?

Any thoughts on this subject would be helpful.

I own a Supercub and am considering this option if possible.

What are these skis (generally speaking) worth on th market. Pump is included. They are in average shape.

I realize that this is the wrong time of year to discuss skis but I just stumbled across them.

Thanks for all your help!

Only Federal Wheel Skis on the 1A2 type certificate are AWB-1500A and AWB-2100.

I looked in the STC database and did not see any Federal/Wipaire 2500 Wheel skis for the PA-18

Federal AWB 2500 w/pump in good condition should fetch 7-9,000 depending on fittings. Cub fittings run about 800. for the pair. The install, depending on what you want can be 1500-3000. You should have 3" gear and will want separate gear legs/ tires/ brakes etc to make it easier to change over. Your legs will need some, but not much mod.
The skis will increase empty weight about 100lbs with 8:50 x6 tires. You will lose air speed, about 5 mph depending on skis up or down. They are not too big, but rather just right (2200 are too small) You may want to consider putting big bottoms on them. PM me with email and I will send you pics of a nice set. I know where there is a NEW (yes NEW) set for 9500. no fittings

Kim: whip does not make 2500. There are lots of 18's with AWB 2500 around and there should be no problem getting approval, they are STC'd

Not sure the AWB 2500's are actually stc'd on cubs, more likely field approvals.

The down side is that they are HEAVY. 100 pounds is very conservative. Mine weigh 125 pounds, in addition to the wheels.

Like any other retractable wheel ski, they are a compromise.

Did I mention that they are heavy? Then again, the C2200's are also heavy, and don't perform well, to boot.

Thanks very much for all of the useful information ! I appreciate it .I will have to make some decisions soon as I don't think they will last long.

Thanks again!

My AWB2500s weigh 110 lbs with 1/4 in plastic. Attach fittings 13 lbs. Pump and plumbing 5 lbs.
