Eddie's Mini Rebuild

Cowl cheek opening

Well the back is much better without surgery so I am back at it. I abandoned the carbon fiber nose bowl as I am just not happy with it. I am going back with the aluminum one.

I got the new cowl brace channels fitted. It was a fight till I figured out how to do it and hold the nose bowl in the right spot.

Thats the good news. I was never happy with the fit of the engine cowling. After trying and trying to make it work, I gave up. I am now going to make a new engine cowling.

My question is how big is the rear cheek opening on the side doors supposed to be?

P.S. Anyone want to buy a split Carbon Fiber nose bowl? I spent hours filling and sanding to smooth it out. It can work but I want to get back in the air. PM if interested.

Generally between 2.5 and 3 inches at the max point. Much over 3 and it starts to look funny, and under 2.5 you may sacrifice cooling.

Hope this helps

Bill

I just realized that the windshield retaining strips from Univair are labeled backwards. The strip labeled front has the step to hold the windshield. It should go in the rear.

I was trying the put the one labeled front in the rear and vice versus. It doesnt fit that way as there is no space for the glass.

Maybe Im not crazy after all.

The one in the back is labeled front. It has the step.

Just have to hang prop, install spinner, and get it weighed. A little metal massaging and trimming. Paint will wait a little while.
Plus, I need a new medical and a flight review.

Heck, You probably got a broom around the hanger, maybe even a Bengie Moore store down the street, don't need a rattle can when you got tools:lol:

PPG for me. I wiil fly it a few hours then remove the boot and engine cowls and paint them at home . i am actually a decent painter

Yes. I don't plan to seal it initially. it stays in a hangar and I don't fly thru the rain. Anchor plates are a pain to install but I can remove it in 5 minutes.

Took a huge load off of me. I did every stitch of it aside from rebuilding the engine. Under supervision on an IA. In fact, he shot the video.

I learned a ton and couldnt have done it without the help of the fine people here.
