DLG aircraft accident.

I know some folks here at .org Have had egnough bad news this last few years, but....it appears another accident has happened. A lot of this is second hand info.

Alaska Central Express departed from King Salmon for Dillingham this morning and did not make it. A beacon has been heard and snowmachines have been sent out to search. The crew reported entering the hold north of DLG or began the approach, that was the last transmission.

Hoping for the best and fearing the worst again in AK. Five accidents in the last week is five too many. the weather has been poor though maybe not a factor in any of the accidents, that is for someone else to determine. Before you go flying STOP any think about what you are doing, really think why you are doing it. This year is already getting to be bad. We had a pretty bad year recently and it is inexcuseable to have another like that. Accidents will happen, but lets aviod the "purposes". I do not mean to preach or insinuate as to the causes of what has recently happened.

The weather has been bad all day. Rescue coordinators have a pretty good idea of where the signal is coming from, but just can't get to it. As the KTUU article states, it's close to where the Otter with Ted Stevens and others went down in September 2010 on the south western corner of the Muklung Hills. I spoke with a pilot that was out searching about an hour after the signal was reported, and he couldn't get near it because of poor visibility. Snogo teams from the Dillingham Search and Rescue were out there, but had to turn back because of poor conditions, as did a state Wildlife Trooper. The hilltop in that area is about 2300 ft, and the lat/long coordinates put the signal coming from about 1600 or 1800 ft. It's on a steep, southwestern facing slope. The weather here in Dillingham (about 20 miles southwest of the site) lifted just a bit this afternoon, but seems to have come down again. It's already almost 3 pm. A Coast Guard or Air Force helicopter is on scene now, but waiting waiting for the weather to improve.

Seems odd that an airplane trying to get into DLG would be in a position to contact ground in the Muklungs...I don't get it.
