On flat surface I measure from ground up to wing and one side sits about 2" lower than the other, I was told I may have weak bungies on the landing gear. If this is true where is the best place to buy new bungies and are they hard to change?

arizcub, It seems likely that your bungees are the problem. They can be a real bear to replace unless you have one of the special tools to do the job. I would recommend that you take it to a shop that does, and let them do the work. There are other things that will cause the wings to be at different heights, including bent landing gear, bent lower longerons, etc. The bungee is the cheapest and easiest first solution. Don't know Flagstaff that well, but there is likely somebody at Deer Valley with the equipment.

Roll the airplane forward and backward and see if the gear goes up into the fuselage in either direction. It should such the bungees up tight going forward if you have some toe in. You can also lift up on the low strut and see if it comes up. I talked with someone in your area recently who had a broken hydrosorb that caused his airplane to sit cockeyed. If you support the airplane and remove the hydrosorbs and send them to Univair they will install them for you. I have a piece of angle cut and drilled to install where the hydrosorb goes if I have to have one out for a while.

I installed bungees on one side of a J-3 last week. Once we built the installation tool, the actual installation process took about 15 minutes. It's a lot tougher if you have PA-12 or PA-14 type gear.

If there is a question about the condition of the bungees, facing the plane grab the struts where they attach to the wing. Rock the plane hard enough to raise the tires off the ground. If they are good there will no movement in the shocks, if the bungees are really bad you almost can't get the tires to come off the ground.
