We know Gary Bakewell as CloudDancer, author of "CloudDancer's Alaskan Chronicles". We know he is a prolific writer, a seasoned Alaskan aviator and a great communicator. We have enjoyed his musings, his sense of humor, his zen for life, his famous "brown paper bag" motif.

It came as some surprise to me to learn that Gary was a member of the Texas Boy's Choir, and as a member of that choir had the honor of performing for President Kennedy just minutes before his life was taken away. In fact, Gary's choir sang the last songs President Kennedy heard. Here is a YouTube video of the story of this event:

Gary, it seems, has always been a talented person, even as a young boy. What you also may not know is that CloudDancer has been willing to step up and make a huge difference in the lives of many, particularly three young men who I know very, very, very well. I knew that Gary had faced a demon and had conquered that demon before it destroyed him. I admired him for that.

Years ago I called upon Cloudy to ask if he would be willing to help a young man who I knew very well since his early childhood. This young man was facing the same demon, and the demon had nearly killed him, had taken away some of the things in life that he cherished. That call I made to Gary to ask for his help in guiding this young man subsequently led to his recovery, to him regaining his wings, help which I greatly appreciated. It was only a short time later when a second young man, then a third, were facing the same demon, and I called again to ask his help for these two who were and are near and dear to my heart. Without hesitation Cloudy stepped forward and helped them help themselves in conquering that demon. I am a physician, am no dummy, but I was faced with three individuals that I loved who were beyond my expertise, beyond my reach. Cloudy sang a proverbial song that they understood, they believed in him and he helped them believe in themselves and saved them.

Sometimes we just don't thank those who deserve thanking and I was inspired by Gary's singing for President Kennedy to share my love and admiration for this super person. May God Bless You, CloudDancer. Thank you.
