Clipped Wing Sport Trainer

What options for master cylinder/heel brakes for the Cub? It has Clevelands on the wheels.
I've seen the Grove brakes, what others are out there? Not coming up with much in searches.

My CWC had some oddball master and I'm not about to use them.
Unless you have oversized "bush" tires, the original Scott master cylinder will suffice. Other than that you should match the output pressures with the Clevelands. What do you have now? Picture? As long as they are functional and put out the pressure, it shouldn't matter if they are "oddball".

Pretty common 60-63 wheel brakes. The masters were some old tractor heel brakes. No way they're going back in.

And sources for the Scott Masters?

Titanium firewall... Couldn't live with the galvanized original.

Thinking about cutting out the semi circular J-3 rear seat, leaving the straight tube for more of a Super Cub rear seat structure.
It'll slide the rear seat back slightly.
I think I'd leave the two vertical diagonal tube and just move them back and weld them to the straight tube.

Thoughts??

If I haven't mentioned it before, I appreciate all the input.

I have done that on a couple. Just removed it and put a removable square tube just like the super cub configuration. Serves as a stop for the seatback as well then I usually fabricate a tube steel brace for the seat. Bottom do away with the canvas sling completely.

Cleaned up all the cockpit tubes. One of the later owners just sprayed cheap yellow paint all through the cockpit presumably to clean it up. Made it worse. All the tubes in the cockpit had loose chipping paint. Looked like crap. The tubes still have good primer. I'm going to paint them black with a good 2 party epoxy.
All of the flight controls are bead blasted and ready for primer. They'll be black too.
I also took out the J-3 type curved rear seat tube, rear seat will be more SC like. And moved back an inch or so.
Original builder did a good job, subsequent owners, not so much.
Going to go with 7.00 x 6 instead of the 6.00 x 6. Just happen to have a set and the 6.00 are worn.

Yes, for twice the price.
I sent Dakota Cub a message about the brake master cylinders, this is their response...

"Good morning!

It’s sold as a pair and priced as a pair- the picture indicates separately which is confusing and I’ll be fixing that this week with an updated picture.

Thanks,
Melanie"

Hi, I've received the plans for the Wag Aero Sport Trainer. I also have the plans for the Clipped Wing & the North Land PA-18 drawings.
On Wags site, it says the plans include revised rib spacing for the Clipped Wing. On the Clipped plans, it only shows the revised angle on the fuselage strut fitting and the wing strut ends.
I contacted Wag about it, they don't know anything.
So I'm coming to the knowledge base. I've searched, but haven't haven't found any specifics on it.
Thanks in advance.
Look at the wing drawing for the clipped and do a side by each comparison with sport trainer wing drawing. The distance between ribs is called out different.

That's true. The Reed conversion doesn't add any additional ribs. The Wag Acro Trainer Plans call for double ribs inboard of the wing strut attach point. The Wag plans also call out a beefier butt hinges. The Wag plans also call out much more tubing and structure to the front on the Super Sport plans which also add more structure to the front spar attach area . The Reed Conversion doesn't add any real structure to the mod other than using the front strut size on the rear strut.

When I first got the plans from Wag, they were missing that drawing sheet. I have it now. This CWC was built to the Wag plans with all the beef ups.

Maule tail wheel that explains the ground loop. Maule built tail wheels to use up there airplanes .
That, and the brakes were in really bad shape. One puck I almost couldn't get out, the other was tough to get out. They're all better now, and I'm installing Steve's Aircraft masters.

Wings are done and ready to go back to the airport. Need to paint the LG, just ordered Steve's master cylinders, engine mount should be here in a week or two. New pitot/ static abs AOA probe installed. Rudder repaired and now just working on punch list stuff.
Just going to have to fly it before too long! Been just over eight months since I picked it up...20250127_123113.webp20250126_170244.webpa48c45c2-7d68-48d5-b8b5-94219391d8a0.webp20250126_114426.webp

Received my Steve's Aircraft masters for the Scott frames... very nicely crafted. They're so nice looking, I hate to hide them under the front seat!

Despite the skeptics [me], beautiful job incorporating the PA-11 windshield into the project. What a fun airplane this will be!

The windshield turned out to be a pretty simple job. Just installed RivNuts this morning & final trim. Ready for the final install.
