C90 Oil Temp bulb leaking

Just finishing up swapping motors on my PA-11, and when I went to screw the oil temp bulb into the oil screen housing, I noticed that there was nothing to keep the temp probe in place. Essentially, it just hangs in the oil screen and nothing seals up the hole where the oil temp line goes through the threaded 'bushing'. It seems to me that the temp bulb should seat into something, then the threaded bushing tightened against the back side of the bulb... Could anybody point me in the direction of what I'm missing? Might have solved my own problem....seems that maybe this adapter was inadvertently left on the engine I took out....

Maybe someone can confirm this is what I need? AC Spruce part #95527

ryan theres 2 types of adapters, straight edge and tapered, make sure you use the right one. yours would be the top one. you want the flat shoulder for your bulb nut to screw against. compression nut they call it in the diagram.

Doug, according to spruce, the #95527 has the flat face, which should be what I need. My question now, is do I need a crush gasket between the bulb and the adapter?
Looking to get one as quickly as possible.

my opinion, no, just like the very top of my diagram. the flat face ring on the bulb labeled flange does the sealing and holds the bulb firmly in place when compression nut is tightened. gasket between the adapter and filter like kases. his is done right. diagram shows where gasket is needed. that stuff is tender be careful. i can only go by the diagram beings im not there to see what you have, and ive seen a lot of different setups there. curious what brand gauge you have? avox is the scott replacement. you need the bulb to just slide through the adapter hole so the sealing ring flange on it will seal, youll figure it out. you could probably take a calipers and measure your bulb diameter and ask spruce to give you a measurement of the hole in there adapter to see whats up.

My gauge is the original U.S.Gauge, 26872.
I had read somewhere that someone recommended a crush gasket on both sides of the adaptor fitting, but I kind of figured one on the backside between the adapter and temp bulb is unnecessary.
Thanks for the help, think I'm on the right track now!

ya you want to make sure the compression nut tightens down on the ring and with a gasket in there it might hinder that????

picture of a tapered bulb that needs the tapered adapter nut just for reference for others. like the bottom picture in the diagram.
