C180 Alternator Belt

Sounds like my old '83 Southwind motorhome. I carried a full tool box and 4 spare belts. I knew the belt had left as I could feel it hit the dog house with my gas pedal foot! After years of putting the spec belt on and just thinking it got so hot in there it threw and trashed it.... I was somewhere in North Dakota in 2004 and couldn't get my normal belt at NAPA. They gave me another brand and design and it's still on there to this day. Turned out the spec'd belt, while looking tight to the pulley sides, was actually bottomed in the grove and wasn't making good contact with the sides and would heat up and throw off.

Hmmmmmm? This sounds like what is happening in post #15.

I'm wondering if 61L's Interav alternator has a Lycoming pulley on it instead of the narrower Continental? Wouldn't it be something if the answer was this simple?

Cessna 2416-1-31 finally arrived and is a much better fit than the TCM belt. I flew from DE to FL yesterday and have about 8 hours on it and so far so good. Fingers crossed:roll:
