c-2210 paint cleaning solvent

I'm doing a patch job using the stitts process and am just about to spray the silver but I dont have c-2210 paint cleaning solvent- will reducer work to wipe away finger print oils etc before applying silver or is there another substitute that will do, like alcohol that wont leave a contaminating residue? or is it entirely necessary.

Reducer will soften what is already there. I used alcohol on dope and it smeared it. Just tried it on some Polyspray and it had no effect.
