I've read a lot of these, some that I've really enjoyed are:

Noel Wien: Alaska Pioneer Bush Pilot” Ira Harkey: I read this book years ago as a youth, was my inspiration to go North.

Wager With the Wind” by James Greiner: A great read,

Glacier Pilot the story of Bob Reeves” Beth Day Romulo: Another great read, lots of history

The Flying North” by Jean Potter : Another great history book, was written in 1945 I think, when these colorful characters were alive.

The Helmericks books are full of history and first time accomplishments.

Don't forget CLOUDDANCER'S ALASKAN CHRONICLES, Great stories of modern times flying in the era of Horzontal opposed engines with fuel injection. Some of the best stories of Alaskan working pilots.

Thanks for the list of books. There should be one in there somewhere Called " The adventure's of Steve Johnson"

Bill

"The Thousand Mile War" by Brian Garfield / Covers a lot of aviation in the Aleutian campaign (emphasis on horrible weather...).

"Raven's Prey" by Slim Randles / Some Super Cub stuff in AK.

"Bush Pilots, Legends of the Old and Bold" By Bob Cary and Jack Hautala

Enjoyed "BIPLANE" by Richard Bach---Not really bush flying---more like cow pasture flying but fun.

Hearts of Courage: the Gillam Plan Crash - John M. Tippets

Wings Over Wilderness, Stories of Alaska Bush Pilot Paul Shanahan is another great bush pilot book. It was written and self published by Chuck Thomas from Fairbank,s Alaska. Google "Sixty Below Press" for more info and how to get a copy.

Currently reading "Border Pilot" by M.L. Bourne. Not a "Bush Book" but an interesting and fun to read compilation of related short stories about the life of a crop-duster back in the '70s in TX.

The Fighting Grasshoppers by Ken Wakefield
L-Birds by Terry M. Love
Fying Low and Shot Down Twice by Joseph Gordon
