As noted in another thread, I recently acquired a bright shiny almost "new" Piper PA 11 Cub Special, thanks largely to the assistance of Dave Tunge.
My first exposure to airplane ownership was with a Piper J-3. That J-3 allowed me to explore Kodiak Island in my off duty hours, while during work hours I flew a PA 18. The Cub introduced my nephew to seaplane ops and more importantly, to fishing for silver salmon as a birthday present on his 14th. A great little airplane it was on EDO 1320 floats and Goodyear 25 inch Airwheels. Eventually, I moved on to bigger and "better" airplanes, but thoughts of that Cub have always provided fond memories.
My recent "re-retirement" got me to considering a smaller airplane than my trusty Cessna 170, an airplane that has served me well for nearly twenty years.
So, this Tuesday, I caught a six AM flight out of my new home in Bozeman, en route to Yankton, SD. There, I met my new ride, a Piper PA 11 Cub Special (I know, this IS SUPER Cub.org, not cub special.org, but this airplane is "special":lol
. After three stops for fuel, and meeting "WeFlyForYou" of this web forum in Spearfish, SD at one stop (aviation is a small and close community, as is sc.org) I arrived at the Cub's (and my) new home in SW Montana.
The seven hour flight seemed to me a good omen for me and this airplane, with ten to fifteen knot tailwinds the entire route, and great weather.
So, having begun my aircraft ownership thirty four years ago in a Cub, I now seem to have come full circle.
And I feel truly blessed to have this opportunity.
