Axle Help!

I was having a great day, sunny, cold and working in my hanger putting the skis on!

got the tires off, put the training wheels on, slid in the axle (for Aero 2800's) and after about 4 inches, clunk.

My new Atlee HD 3" gear have an extra piece inside that restrict the interior down about .3 inches. If I take that much off of the axle, there is not much metal left....

Ok, what have been the solutions?

Putting the old gear on means a prop and cable change, so do not really want to do that...

Called Aero Ski, but as it is saturday, and I wanted to fly Monday...

Thanks for the help.

The bearing stop on the gear is Usually removable, some gear they are welded on  if thats the case with your gear you can get a different bushing for the ski or a spacer from Landes / Airglas

Nope, This is the outside fitting, which requires the ski attach axle to fit inside the gear axle, which means that I need a step in the part inserted....

Just wondering how others have done it?

First let me say I am not familiar with Aero 2800 skiis. Is there any chance you are trying to put the right skii on the left gear? My Atlee Dodge skiis are right and left specific.

These are wheel skis.

It is the attach fitting that is the problem. Even if I put the left one in the right axle, it has the same problem...

This is a gear different than before problem....

Axles

Aktango,

the R2088 axle extensions need to be fixed VERY well inside the existing wheel axle.

If you land in the snow with the wheel in the UP position, all the landing force is transferred in to the gear axle with a BIG momentum ( torque )

I suggest that you ream the axles out to a certain extend, so that you could insert the stubaxle again, which then needs to be machined to the diameter of the gear.

The easiest way then is to keep the inner stubaxle in place after welding it to the gear and just remove the slide over fitting.

Other way are feasible but a PIA.

IN a follow up: I am back in the air...

The 3" atlee gear I have have an additional interior 4130 type N tube for the extra strength, which limited anything going inside the axle.

After a long and :drinking: tiresome process the idea I originally wanted to do, (get thick wall tube, reduce the end to fit the axle) was engineered, ($$$$$), approved, (quickly compared to the engineering), and returned.

I tip my hat to Aero Ski, which made up some great blanks for me to machine down! Fast, helpful and nice about it all...

The moral of the story is, I should have bought new gear without the inner tube. Faster, cheaper and would have done the same job.

If you know of anyone with the same problem, I have the engineering work completed, and signed 337 showing the process.

It was fun back on skis...

Now to fix the snow machine
