April Ice report from Homer Alaska

I have had a few e-mails from folks wanting to do some float flying during the first week of May. Between the Valdez Fly-In and the Trade Show up in Anchorage.
Well, during some years that may have worked...
But here are links to a couple photos I took on April 15, 2006. One is Beluga Lake, elevation 10 feet. And the other is the snow in my garden (where I never plow) elevation 1000 ft MSL.

Things are not looking good for anything but skis so far...

Global warming is why the Vikings were able to colonize Greenland for a few hundred years. Before it swung back the other way.. A little would come in handy right now...

I just swept 10 inches of snow off my wings this afternoon, and it's still snowing. I stopped by the Dillingham FSS and the operator said he hadn't been able to see the runway lights all day.

I think the local Easter Egg hunt might have been canceled.

The temp was 0 F the other morning.

Alex,...maybe those folks might be interested in some ski flying the first week of May ??

We do not have the snow that Homer has, but the ice here in Lake Clark is still good.

I had 18 inches ( 16 of it was good ice) yesterday when I moved my tie downs. Most of the lake ice and coves have only a few inches of encrusted snow, but there are drifts.

Alex,
I can ensure you that we have no intentions ro repeat what was done in the tenth century''
, even though we are one the threshold of global warming.

The Chinese are already dealing with the Greenlanders for rights to drill for oil, and probably plan to use the NW passage to take it home.

We just had six inches of snow fall last night.

I would love to see the Long Ships patroling the Northern Sea once again. Even modern long ships.
Make the Chinese tanker captains pay tribute to the Son's of Odin.
