Do your Cub and your Wallet a Favor -
Be in Control and Be SAFE!!
Chugiak, Alaska: Every Cub owner will brag about what he likes best about his plane ? but I?ve never heard anyone brag about the landing gear suspension system; i.e., it?s leaking again, it?s too soft, it?s too stiff, or I need to change those bungees again!
Now Cub owners have a choice ? you can keep pranging along with what you?ve got, beating your airframe slowly (or not) to certain death, or you can install the Alpha Omega Suspension System (AOSS). With the AOSS, you are assured of proven softer, more controlled and SAFER landings in all landing configurations and situations. Performance has been officially tested in temperatures to -20 F; unofficially to -26 F. Though the AOSS stiffens slightly in sub-zero temperatures, it transfers less of the landing G-forces to the airframe than the hydrasorb and bungees.
Whether you have a standard width or 4? widebody airframe Supercub, or a PA-12 or PA-14, standard length, 3? extended, or (coming soon) 6? extended gear, AOSS can be fitted to your aircraft. As with the current limited system in use on most Cubs, the basic AOSS unit is just that ? a basic unit. The unit can be adapted for fuselage width and gear length with various length shock struts. In addition, custom installations are readily available for PA-18 type landing gear systems for experimental and home-built aircraft. Shock struts up to 14? long can be custom fabricated at no additional cost.
The AOSS is more than a pretty face ? it?s a dynamic operating system that is functional and safer under all landing and taxiing conditions. One owner reports that upon landing on a rough, rocky river bottom with his 30? tires, each landing gear was operating in a smooth, slow, controlled and independent manner. There was virtually no rocking of the wings from a too-stiff suspension, or tossing about of the occupants of the aircraft. Landings on steep incline beaches have been reported to have the uphill tire give a short skip and the downhill tire to ?grease on?. Upon second contact of the uphill tire with the ground, the AOSS will conform to the terrain and the wings remain level as long as there?s lift. The ?tendency to veer uphill? during this type landing ?is virtually gone?.
In all reported landing situations, the landing trajectory changes little, if at all. The path to the landing site remains a straight one. Initial contact of the tires with the ground is completely absorbed by the AOSS; a short tire skip is experienced. Once the tires contact the ground the second time, you immediately have brakes and control.
How do you spell Softer, Safer and More Control? AOSS!
At $2,200.00 per pair, the AOSS is no doubt a serious investment in your aircraft, but keep in mind there is no annual or biennial expense for changing of bungee cords/shock rings. You buy AOSS only once. Maintenance is reduced to a periodic change of an $8.00 seal (which is not a safety of flight item), and we supply the first replacement free!
The AOSS is designed, engineered and manufactured in the U.S.A. Patent issued August 26, 2003. STC issued May 25, 2004.
