AOSS Installation Time

Time to install is approximately 20-30 minutes to assemble the turnbuckle bolts, checknuts and shock struts to the units themselves. 30-45 minutes (?) to jack the aircraft and remove the hydrasorb and shock strut as an assembly and install the AOSS in the same bolt holes, final adjustment of the AOSS and locking the checknuts.

There is an AD coming out on the lift strut bolts for all Cubs soon so the FAA made me add that the lift strut bolts must be installed in an inverted position; i.,e., with the nut and cotter pin on top of the fork.

Seems the new bolts are 5/16" longer than they used to be and there are (nobody knows where they came from or if they ever got approved) hydrasorbs with a longer than original stroke. This allows the landing gear drag strut to come in contact with the end of the lift strut bolt when the bungees get weak. The strap that is welded on the gear that wraps the bushing on the gearleg becomes damaged and can collapse. They claim there have been failures in the field. Personally, I don't know of any failures but I have seen landing gear where the bolt has contacted and dented the strap on the gear leg.
