Hopefully in a mont or so my floors will be poored in my hangar. If anyone who does'nt hve a shop and needs to do some work on their plane will be welcome to use it.The hangar will be big enough to leave my junk in and have plenty room to work on theirs.I just got electricity and air compressor will be wired soon.I am hoping that local guys that need a shop for a few weeks to a month will come by and use it.All i will ask is pick your junk up and if you use something replace it.If we need to paint,we can put the other planes outside for a few days, have some good tie downs out there.I am hoping this will turn into a fun thing and maybe some of us could help one another out.I just enjoy being around old planes, and would love to have others around who enjoy the same thing.Lots of locals that have hangars dont have doors, heat or electricity, been there for 25 years. Will be real treat to have air ,and tools handy ,not having to drive miles back if i forgot something.Just being able to take cowling off and not worry wind blowing it to end of field will be nice.I hope this works out like our float change over thing, every one helps one another and saves money at the same time.I will only ask you bring your own hand tools if you are doing a big project.I will leave the basics hanging on the wall, but my snap ons will be locked up.Maybe will get an electric hoist or winch by fall,so we can do ski and wheel gear service lifting the plane.Let me know if this is something you could use,and ill show you where we hide the key.

Phil,
You sir are too much! You are the reason why Fun Flying has returned to Rag,Tube and pot bellied stoves..... Because we like to fly and talk about it.
John

Thanks guys, but this is for selfish reasons.I can talk airplanes, look at em and maybe get a chance to even get a ride.I still run outside when i hear a plane flying low. If i wasnt at my little strip working or talking planes,i would just want to fly to another strip to do the same. Have been helped and educated by lots of old time pilots. This is just a way to pay back what i was given in the past. I am only going to mke one stipulation,if it's a husky pilot needs my hangar they cant brag how they're better than cubs. :D

John, another plus for this is my dad loves it.When the guys change floats here in the spring and fall,he is there first thing in the morning till dusk.He is 75 and in good health,he does'nt fly too much by himself but loves being around them.If someone flys over the store or garage low,he will drive up to our little strip to see if they landed. P.S. let me know when you get down this way, strip is a little rough right now with mud and frost heaves.I took off sunday to put the cub up on the tar in bethel.Maybe next summer when i can get the hangar to stop looking like a construction site i will have a little flyin.Hopefully the inside will be pretty complete by may or so,but need to do some landscaping around the outside. The local car club asked to use the strip for a car and bike show, maybe that would be a good time for a little flyin.I figured if i got steak, lobster and burgers for free, someone might actually show up. I was thinking a late may or early june flyin some year would be fun.Dont think there are any flyins until august and september up this way.I also could have roodm for some float planes on the river.Maybe would could have some takeoff and flour drop fun.Who knows, hard to plan anything till this darn thing is finished.Sick of hauling fill and all the other stuff trying to make an airstrip.I have enjoyed it,but will be glad after all these years to be able to fly more.

Phil,
Miss Daisy is down to Finleyville( Cubsunlimited) right now having a few mods put on and some landing and panel lights that were never installed when she was overhauled in 93. I am in the process of getting together all we will need to put an airstrip in over at my Father in Laws near Plymouth, New Hampshire 1P1. We have the old corn field cleared through 1600 feet we are awaiting weather enough to level out two swales at the mid point. It appears we will rototill the entire strip to allow leveling and run a dozer over it. By mid summer we should be in good shape and not to far from you. I purchased a steel used frame to create a 50'x75' hangar of our own. I need to now find all the girts purlins and sheeting to finish it off. A guy in uncle Henry's is advertising a full 40'x13' bifold door for sale in Sanford with all the trim and electrics. I am trying to get a hold of him to find out it's condition.
I have decided to take Miss Daisy to New Holstein this year so floats will not go on til late season. This also allows me the time to get them from Millinocket down to China and go through them with a Good Paint Job and fix one leaking compartment. So you may see me yet for a late summer changeover.
John

only 1600'. AOPA wouldn't insure me with 1900'. They told me you need a minimum of 2500'. Don't know if that for all aircraft or just supercubs

Phil - sure sounds like a sweet set up. I hope to see it one day. You're a decent guy to make the offer you did and I'm betting it will pay you back in spades - good on ya!! :D

Flying Miss Daisy - your lash up sounds pretty sweet as well I'm definitely envious. I need to start angling for the trip to the east cost here but life remains full of challenges.

Both you guys are making me homesick for New England. I at least hope to make it to New Holstein this year and to see you both there.

We're going to be opening up a new strip over in Talmadge, Maine (right on the site of the famous Princeton VOR--PNN). About 2400 by 75, grass, with plenty of space for camping. I plan to spot some 100LL and 93 on site for visiting pilots. It is in the Grand Lakes region of Maine, which is a prime outdoor recreation area. The ocean is also less than an hour away.

It is about a 30 minute Cub flight from the CCAS operation (www.flyccas.com) in Millinocket and will serve as one of the satellite training fields for tailwheel transitions & plunking about on a gorgeous day in Maine.

Flyin' Miss Daisy Meade is going to have to come up with a name for the field...he's good at that.

I also will have my grass strip up and running this spring and invite my neighbors in Maine or anywhere else up for a visit. I'll try and provide anything that would be needed to visitors that I know are coming, from hangar space to lodging etc. I also enjoy the visitors. My strip is 2000' x 75' for now and is supposed to be on the charts. This strip has been under construction for about seven years, the terrain was not made for a strip but seven years, two guys, a dozer, excavator and truck can do wanders. So far everyone that has seen the strip is amazed, come see for yourself and let me know what you think? PS my helper on the dozer/ truck is now over seventy, never been in aviation , so I named the strip after him or used his initials "L A field" in Lower East Pubnico. I'll be looking for it on the new sectionals.
Ron

Ron, our strip in Talmadge is very close to the NB border. Unfortunately traveling between Canada and the US has become a major hassle. Not so much on your side--on ours. Strange given that we're all one language and trying to be one economy with the country that surrounds are state on two sides....

JP, I looked on my road atlas and can't find Talmadge, Maine. And Ron I always wanted to fly up there in NS. But can't find Lower East Pubnico either. What are they near so I can plan my trip.

Jeff, I found it. We'll have to get Cliff, John M. and anyone else thats wants to come along and head to NS this summer.

Phil-

That is pretty nice of you to let others use your hanger! If you ever have a fly-in up there please post it on here. I would be interested in a trip east.

NS is gorgeous, period. And the nightlife in Halifax is the best this side of Boston.

We'll have to bring a tow rope for Cliff, though, so he doesn't get lost. The little arrow might point in the wrong direction or something.

Gunny, behind propellerscoming this way would be glad to have ya.If you get out this way and need a place to stay pm me and will clean the house and go stay at the old lady's.My strip is just down the road, and if you are on floats can tie up across the street on the river. nother thing we are going to do is put some electricity down by the river at my strip. My dad bought a newer motorhome and we are going to put his old one down along the river. With electricity,a deck and a fire pit transients can have a tie down and a camper ,with fire pit. My dad is going to park his next to it.If someone calls ahead i will leave it open and bring down some clean sheets and towels. You may have to put up with dad, telling stories about his many hours in a taylorcraft. You will surely hear how a taylorcraft is the best plane ever built. If the taylor craft haad a 180 in it and was still kept light it would have put the piper aircraft company out.I am really hoping to meet some more of you in the future. In my opinio maine is most beautiful in the fall. The greenville flyin would be a gret time if anyone wants to come to maine.Jeff isnt too far from there, and ron b is usually there.Flying miss daisy is close by as well.To me that is a fun flyin and a good time of year to visit.

yuppo, this year I will be at Greenville (with a booth) and at the camp on Monson Pond. We'll have camping space and food, etc. for SCers. Flyin' Miss Daisy will be singing at the dinner party.

The big city of Lower East Pubnico ( Ha!) is within spitting distance of the southern most tip of the province. It's even farther south than most of Maine. We are on the same latitude as Portland . Yarmouth , Nova Scotia is a half hour drive north of us, which during the summer months has a high speed catamaran ferry that only takes under three hrs from Bar Harbour. For those on floats we have two cottages on good lakes that can be used if prior arrangements are made.
We plan on imposing on others when we get flying and would be glad to have others from the flying community visit us and our province. We also plan on having fly-ins but with finishing up on both planes and widening the strip , it probably won't happen this year.
P.S. the strip is over 75' now but my land is over 150' wide and I'm using the full width, it's just what I wanted, everybody is asking why and that is it.

We flew up to St. Stephen last fall in the club 172, for something to do . It didn't take us much more than an hr. Other than customs it wouldn't take any longer. We would have to make prior arrangements for customs in Lubec then continue up to your place. I've been past your area many times, got my helo ticked down in Sanford Me. back some ten years ago. Made quite a few trips by back then. We will have to look you up next time by.
