And so it begins

I had some friends help move the covered wing to the stationary rack and the other wing to the rotisserie. Work has started on that one. I made a few carbon fiber parts for the wings. Two inspection covers for each wing, one for the flap and one for access to the aileron cables. Pictured is the pulley/cable cover on top of the wing. The lip will get painted to match the wing but I’ll leave the rest clear coated.

Second wing after two cross coats of Ekofill. This gets sanded before another coat of Ekofill. Set up the paint booth and shoot color. The end is almost in sight.

Finished painting the right wing, installing the nav light and fitting the landing light lense. I’m making a carbon fiber trim for the landing light. The blue in the first photo isn’t all blotchy, it’s the lighting/reflections. I have a couple more tasks to accomplish on this wing and then will move the other wing into the paint booth.

How do you protect the CF parts from UV?

The clear coat has a UV blocker in it. Automotive stuff. Hopefully it works.

Sent the wings to the hangar today. I’m painting ailerons, flaps, inspection covers and some other odds and ends. Most of February is occupied so I plan to assemble in March.

Painted the Pstol flaps, inspection covers and a bunch of small stuff today. Ailerons are painted but need a little touch up. That should happen this week. After six years I’m finally running out of things to do.

Put the flap sections back together and repainted the fairing strips. Nothing left to do but put everything together.

Fabricated a couple lift rings out of 304 SS. Spent today setting up to hang the wings…probably happen Monday.
