Amendment to law protects Oklahoma private airstrip owners

In West Virginia, our Recreational Use Statue lists all kinds of activities on private property but not on private airstrips. A local pilot here is now a WV State Delegate. I gave him all the links to as well as copies of the RAF info and he put together a bill. I've not seen it but the WV legislature just started their 60 day session last week. He knows a pilot in the state Senate he will get for help. We will wait and see where this goes.
No private owner complained that I know of when all OBP folks bounced in and out of the many private strips here in WV over the last several years. In fact, we drew welcoming crowds! But I know several owners who always tell me that they are not inviting me to land but they won't kick me out if I do!
Watch for the bill filing deadline

We had a bill to add "recreational aviation" to our RUS in TX the last session. I personally went and testified at the Capitol, quite the experience for a country boy, HA!

AOPA was huge in trying to get the bill passed, anyone who says AOPA doesn't go out on a limb for our type of flying is sorely mistaken. We will get it through next time, I hope, and then private strip owners like my family can open up our playground without fear of frivolous lawsuits.

I had a detailed thread over on BCP when the bill was still alive, can't remember the title as its been a minute but I'm sure it's still in there somewhere.

Glenn, maybe it was the OBPs who marked their territory on the Kanawha River and now all the WV legislature in Charleston has to drink beer in place of water! Could help passage.......

The last I heard from WV Delegate Mike Folk, he had 7 co-sponsors for the WV RUS amendment. He is looking for 4 more. Then the draft bill will be referred to an as yet unnamed committee.
I sent him links to the Bill Tracy and John Graham October 2012 WV tour Vimeo videos! I hope he forwards them to some his fellow legislators. At least I think they would be positively affected - can't predict human nature.
