A 201. Aerodynamics....wing washout

The Taylorcraft manual gives specs for dihedral even though its not adjustable (fixed length front strut) and washout. Then it goes on to suggest after flight testing to adjust washin in to correct for nose heavy and washout for tail heavy. My plane needs less washout. It glides about 5-7 mph too fast with power off and full up trim.

I have played with the washout on my BC12-D, and it will fly a little faster with less twist. It's now rigged by the book, which suits me. It once had a heavy wing and so I turned one of the jackscrews to correct it.

An old bush pilot who instructs told me he loved to scare students white-knuckled by starting them in a Cub and then letting them solo in a Taylorcraft on a short sod field. That floating on final would scare the bejeebers out them every time, he said. It's hard to slow that 23012 airfoil down.
