Hello,
I am new to the group. I recently purchased 850X6 tires for installation on our PA 18 cub. What tire pressure is recommended for this size tire on the Super Cub?

8:50 Tire pressure

I had the same question in April 04 and here is what Cubflyr18 said:

I have the 8.50 tires with the cubcrafters stc for the borer prop. They recommend 30psi on concrete/20-22psi on turf, etc. Scott 3200 tailwheel pressure is 50psi. I find if my tw pressure gets low it's more inclined to shimmy. Hope this helps.....Jeff

I fly off of concrete 75% of the time(unfortunately) and I agree to the higher pressure for paved surfaces. I have cheated a bit on his recommendation and run 25 psi all of the time. I run about 50 psi in the 3200 tailwheel because our chapter runs the emergency repair facility at AirVenture in Oshkosh each year. I can't tell you how many tail wheels we have had a part because pilots didn't have the time or interest to check the tail wheel pressure.

Good Luck,

Tom from Iowa

30 psi seems high, heck I don't even run 25. Got about that in them one day and they were like a rock. I run about 17psi all the time and it seems to work well. 'course I don't have to keep one of those big props from hittin' the ground.

I run 18 lbs. all the time. I agree with taledrgr. Tire is too stiff at 25. And I run Borer props. Tha tailwheel pressure is 40-50. Anything lower can induce a shimmy.

8:50 x 12 tire pressure

I guess I'm the lowball guy here. I ran 8:50's for years doing predator control, a lot of off field landings, and I ran 12 psi. It worked great.
