3 inch gear extension, 8.5 tires

I am planning to put 3 inch extended gear and the 8.5 tires on my supercub. Anyone able to give me an estimate of distance from the ground to the top of the wing? I am about to remodel my hangar and build a loft, need to know how much clearance I am likely to need.

I just measured the one in the shop here... it's on 31's and is 7 feet to the top of the cabin...with no antennas...

Randal,

I don't know if you get to Crystal anymore but mine and Patrick's both have the extended gear. I'll measure mine this week.

But dont' forget that most of these things have both antennas and propellers. Sometimes those are the clearance issues, not the top of the cabin.

They's expensive as well.

Mo room is better,

Randy ,

Not sure what type of door you have but it might have a bearing on how high your walls will need to be. I have 14 foot side walls with a bifold door on my hangar and the opening is approx. 11'6". I wanted it that high for when/if I put anphibs on.

Here's the deal. I bought a hangar and need to put two aircraft in it. The folks at the airport have done some pretty nice things with their hangars, including some lofting on the side or on the back. The way it schematics out, I can build a loft in the back of the hangar, or side of the hangar, with the Supercub tail tucked under it, but the wing tips will be under the loft, as well. The main part of the fuselage won't be...thus no problems for the antennas. I am putting together plans for the hangar and am finding a substantial height increase in putting on the extended gear with 8.5 tires, not to mention the possibility of 31's. I am limited by the height of the rafters, and would like to put a bathroom/shower/living room up there.

I greatly appreciate the input you folks have generated. Keep it coming.

I'm still looking for either a 337 or STC for installing either a 3" or 6" extended gear on a J-3. Anybody know of one?
JimC

The former J-3 I owned had 3" extended gear on it. You could contact the new owner or order a history CD from the FAA that would have the 337 on it. N32587. Currently registered to an owner in Arizona.

Charlie, if I remember correctly, there is a Charlie Aaron that owns a diesel powered M37. Is that you?

I'm in the market for a used set of Cub Crafters 3" extended gear, Part no. 102222-001.

Anybody know of a set for sale?
