NE Summer Fun

So I get to the island and Bob say that the outhouse that his son Mike had built as a kid had gotten blown into the Hudson River with the big storm Friday evening. It sat behind the island house on the bank of the river as a reminder of Mike who died last fall.

So.....guess who gets to go swimming in the Hudson to fish a strap under and around the outhouse.

Got a little beat up but we made his wife Pat happy

Had to pik pole the ice around the dock on Saturday morning. The water is deadly cold. One immediate project is to formally designate the seaplane landing areas to prevent those from away who tell everyone what to do from curbing activity.

Yea, I didn't make it. Bought a boat on Friday in Enfield CT for $1300 that hadn't run in 5 years. Worked all day on it Sat, water pump and took all 3 carbs apart.

Didn't have any parts left over so off to the lake to see if it's going to run

Go's like hell 36 mph

Fantastic shot--glad to see her in the air again! Now, if we can just get the "summer" back in the NE and warm up a bit.....

Breakfast at Arygle this morning

Glenn

Wish we had known. My wife and I were going to stop there on Saturday to see if Dick would be interested in bringing a plane or two up when we have the B-17 Tour here but once the rain took hold we stayed in.
Would have run down this morning had we known.

We have had an excellent week of after work flying. Wednesday night to the mountains to see Sawyer at carrabassett valley, last night to the sea for lobster rolls. Dont know where we will go tonight.
Its the best time of year in Maine right now.

There were times growing him up I should have used the stick for other purposes. Well, it seemed that way those years ago. Its really an incredible thing for me today to have my wingman be my
business partner, my grandkids dad, and my best friend, my son Andy

We go out to dinner on Friday evenings with friends. We ended up across the Mohawk river in St Jonhsville NY. Lots of history in the Valley. We still had some daylight on the way home so we did a little exploring. Erie canal lock 33 was built in the 1830s and used till the modern locks were built. We stopped to take a look, still amazes me what out ancestors did with no modern equipment.

Two locks side by side

These early locks are scattered in the weeds all over the Mohawk Valley. Some are made into picnic areas and some are buried under the brush

Modern canal, lock 17 at Little Falls NY at one time was the highest water lift in the world, not altitude but total lift from one level to the next 40.5 feet

Second lock on this video is #17
