Completed a neat cross country trip to a lake in the Oregon Cascades on 31-OCT. Went for a dip, the water was about 45F and there was snow at about 5000 MSL in the foothills. Not for everyone. But, it was fun for me. I'm half polar bear.

Green Peter Lake, a wonderful day, 31-OCT-2017:

Just enough wind so a "Glassy water" approach was not needed. Surface definition good:

Water very clean:

Like another planet. Too good to be true?

Weather transformed from a 50 knot gale to perfect in 30 hours!

Let's go from 44N down past the Tropic of Cancer to 21N....

...and start planning an informal offshore trip this weekend off Honolulu. Air is 85F and water 79F, great trolling weather. The boat received new bottom paint, zincs, and two new house batteries last weekend. She launched today and is in her new berth (800 pier is under renovations) near the Ilikai Hotel. If any airplane drivers are in town, PM me. No charge just bring sun protection. And be ready to fight a fish or two.

Fishing boat looks small next to the sailboats in the new home:

Hell no. I signed annual inspection and she was fine (487 TT). Although, I did fly commercial this month, cough cough.

Our new little berth has a Japanese Duck Boat (amphibious) passing by every couple of hours. Waving "Konichiwa" to the passengers is kind of cool. They motor to G4 bouy then return to the hotel.

What is that black tape on your engine cowls? Velcro?

My previous mooring in Honokahau Harbour, Kona required "Back in only" because we "Tahitian tie". Very crowded. Then, had to climb up on the engines and jump to the pier. What you see is 3M nonskid tape so we would not fall into the water. Honda BF150s are strong, you can stand on the engine covers with no damage. You like come see my Brother? It's below freezing tonight in Gustavus, AK and Hawaii is 85F. Ha ha! How is the Jeep running? I'm still sorry you had to tow me back to PAGS!! Aloha!

Barnstormer (Phil) caught a Marlin off Honokahau, if I remember correctly.

I got ya. I don't jump to piers anymore. Can't afford the back surgeon[emoji12]

Yes it's chilly here, but not raining so no complaints. Gotta stick around and plow snow so no HI for us this year. We did get south to the US for a month in October. CO mostly, no clouds and lots of sunshine. Sold the Jeep to a young lady (neighbor) who never could find one she could afford. It's in Sitka now.

Keep the warm pics coming. Like 'em!

Dang it, ah dang it...the weekend slipped by too fast. Could not get my ducks in a row for going fishing offshore. Anyway, I promised my wife we would surf "Ala Moana" so it was a perfect day to do so.. Waves were blown out (sneaky Northwest winds), size about 2-3' but, very good place to burn calories and get ready to stuff myself for Thanksgivings Day. We will be at Bellows AFB, East Oahu side for "Turkey Day". If anyone is looking to join me in a pumpkin pie or turkey eating contest this Thursday, send me a note.

Random analysis of the surf session today:
Love Makaha brand longboards. Absolutely the best I have surfed on South shore waves (Northshore waves would snap any longboard in half) . They are polystyrene/epoxy. But, they look like polyurethane/polyester. Composite construction has really become prettier, much more aesthetic.

This morning combing the old wax off and applying new ("...Wax on, Wax off..."). Yep, (the picture don't lie), they moved me again, on a floating pier now. I feel affluent.

Happy Thanksgivings!

Finally got my act together. Weather: gale force winds, snow on Mauna Kea, and 25-30' waves have altered any plans to cross the channels. So, I decided to stay in the leeward shadow of Oahu and head to Kaena Point. Today was just an SCA (Small Craft Advisory) 20kts Trades, 7-8' seas.

First leg to Pokai Bay. I had a nuclear submarine following me. There was the Ehime Maru crash in the area when some civilians were allowed to drive the sub. I'm a bit paranoid of navy ships at times. There have been other bent metal too involving war ships.

Saw another capsized boat. It looked new, nice and shinny. Called USCG and relayed LOT/LAN.

After a night on anchor I headed to Kaena Pt..

Caught a Rainbow Runner. Near the "V" FAD.

Flossy helped clean the fish. She knows her sushi.

How'd you get her up to 2500', Ted? Can't tell you how many times I was asked what the elevation was when we were out fishing. [emoji15]

Good catch on the track summary! I didn't even notice the altitude! It's interesting what other people notice. Should of recorded MSL 0' !!

Looks like all the upper mountain lakes are freezing in Glacier Bay and Canada. Are you getting any airtime?
