Oops, darn it...

Were they holding on to the wings?... "ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Five people were rescued by Alaska Air National Guard airmen Monday after surviving a plane crash in wilderness near Pingston Creek, roughly 90 miles east of McGrath.According to the Alaska National Guard, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center received a satellite phone call from the pilot of the PA-18 Super Cub after it crashed west of the Alaska Range.
After receiving the call, AKRCC tasked airmen from the Air Guard's 210th, 211th, and 212th Rescue Squadrons with the rescue. The team deployed from JBER in an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter and an HC-130J fixed-wing support aircraft.
The rescue team located the crash and rescued all five survivors, who were taken to Alaska Regional Hospital for treatment."...

I have a vision of a modified belly pod with places for three baby carriers. Open air, of course. Parents of triplets should not have to give up their outdoor activities...

It's now September hunting season and there's bound to be a few aircraft bruises. Hope folks pay attention when the weather deteriorates.

mike mcs, Did you see this?

I can't seem to copy the picture which shows a fixed pitch McCauley Model 1A170/FFA prop broken right through the middle of the hub. I've never heard of one of these breaking like this. Blades yes, but hubs no. Do you suppose that it had previously been involved in a sudden stoppage from a strike? The AD calls for inspecting the prop every 200 hours. That's good enough for me to scrap the prop if it can't be trusted for more than 200 hours.

Impressive. Nope never seen one fail up close to hub

2 Fairbanks hunters found dead in wreckage of plane

Author: Michelle Theriault Boots

Two Fairbanks men have been found dead in the wreckage of their crashed airplane east of Healy, the Alaska State Troopers said.

Timothy Sonnenberg, 45, and Jason Roberts, 43, left from Fairbanks on a hunting trip in the area of the Nenana River some time earlier in September, according to troopers. They were reported overdue on Friday morning.

The men had been in Sonnenberg's Piper PA-12 when they went missing, according to troopers and an online search fundraiser. Their last known coordinates were near the west fork of the Delta River, according to the fundraiser.

On Saturday, a pilot told troopers he saw a plane that "appeared to be burned."

"There did not appear to be any survivors," troopers wrote.

The site of the crash is about 35 miles east of Healy, in mountainous terrain, said Clint Johnson of the National Transportation Safety Board.

On Sunday, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center sent a military helicopter to the site of the crash.

Sonnenberg and Roberts were found dead inside the wreckage, troopers said.

As of early Sunday afternoon, an effort to recover the bodies was still underway.

The weather — with low clouds, rain and fog — hasn't been good enough for NTSB investigators to land, Johnson said. They will need a helicopter to access the site.

"We're waiting on a weather window," he said.

Oh yeah, it was wrecked back in 2010 due to not back-taxiing far enough on the lake and not aborting the T/O/

I disassembled RW to recover it for its' helicopter ride after the earlier wreck. The pilot screwed up. And that was a very nice Beaver then. Bummer for them at the very end of the season this year!

The Helio was very likely a medical issue for the pilot at low altitude. Nevermind what the experts say.
