Roberts is charged with one count of serving as an airman without a pilot certificate, in violation of 49 U.S.C. § 46306(b)(7)
I remember a discussion years ago about what law a person violated if flying a plane without a license. Don't think we ever came up with a statute.
Evidently this is the statute.

But here in New York you can steal a car, have a stolen gun and commit a robbery and just gets ticket to appear in court at a later date. Maybe even show up.
Jim
Based on the attached court report, it appears he was flying commercially for hire without a license.
Not that day. First flight after rebuild. He had an engine sputter on takeoff and ended up crashing and coming to rest against a friend’s house off the end of the runway. Fortunately there was no fire. The thing that drew attention was the unapproved mods. He said it was an experimental. It wasn’t, at least by the FAA definition. He has a history, yes, but the detainment until the trial for this event is a surprise.
Am I missing something? Airman violations fate is determined by Faa/NTSB.
Flying without a license provides the violator with the same due process provided to all citizens
where you are innocent until proven guilty with rights to a jury trial ??

It was an interesting day. Notice the slats?

Flaps have been modified also, they are longer. This airplane used to a local one that I maintained for the previous owner before this joker got a hold of it. The selling trail is interesting, he had another guy buy it for him out of Washington. Its an unfortunate end to what was a nice older cub.

Kinda reminds me of the recent intentionally crashed T-Craft incident,
seems like the punishment is more for lying and/or covering up than for the original offense.
Makes me think of the aftermath of the watergate scandal.

Fuel system was also modified. Valve mis-marked. Likely what caused the problem. Like I said, interesting day. I’m still surprised at the detainment.
It's a real shame. I picked this airplane up from Steve's Aircraft for a friend, and ferried it first to Olympia, then after an engine overhaul and other upgrades, on to Wolf lake. It was one of the nicest flying Cubs I've flown. It subsequently suffered an unfortunate flip-flop at a private strip on Chelatna Lake and was then sold to the person who was involved in the accident at Wolf Lake. However the human side of the story unfolds, I hope someone can rescue the bones and bring a good Cub back to life.

History of not appearing. That explains the detainment.
Fool me once...
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
He is certainly a "naughty boy". Sorta like a modern day Albert Johnson, Mad Trapper of Rat River!

Yep I remember that one. He was a particularly bad pup.
Another really BAD dog, Michael Oros who terrorized Northern BC in the 70's and 80's. Decent Into Madness is the book. Just as tough as Albert Johnson.
