    Engine component part numbers

I’m struggling to get clarity on Continental engine component part numbers. I currently have two old project engines that are candidates for an experimental I will be building later this year. The engines in question are a Continental C-85-12 and an O-200-A.

Looking at the official parts list for the crank and camshafts for these two engines, and they don’t match the actual parts in my engines. examples:

part name…………….…….parts list number………my actual part
    crankshaft 0-200-A…….530182 std ……………..530548

    camshaft C-85. …………..40584 (iron) ………………242231
    ………….O-200-A……………628421(forged steel)….626608

there are others too, for example, in the parts list, the lifter bodies for the 0-200-A reference three camshafts they are compatible with, none of which are shown in the parts list.

Im used to old outdated parts lists, but this is really a hard one to navigate. i am reasonably sure my actual parts are right for the engine but i can’t find any of those parts in the listing.

anyone have any good sources for good cross reference part numbers for small Continentals? i’ve checked in the back of the book for undersized, service parts, etc, and no luck

    thanks

628421- early number cam with fuel pump lobe, 626608 is the current cam. 24231 is the old number c85 cam and the 40584 is the current cam. 530182 is the current crank, 530548 is the older number, i think, not sure on that???

    531076 is a c90 cam not 0-200, 531146 is the last c90 fuel injection cam, 643067 is a 0-200 cam.

c90 cams have less lift than 0-200s. but use the same lifters.

the very early c90s used some 530 part numbers, below engine serial number #40000 the cranks werent nitrided yet, im wondering if this one of these is what was at sometime put in your motor. pistons were still 530348.

Thank you for that .pdf list. i’ll search it for other parts.

the crank is indeed numbered 530548. i found an old ebay listing of someone selling one as an 0-200 crank, but no other references. it has a BH on it below the part number and someone stamped a “Z” in it after it was made, presumably when it was overhauled.

the engine was built in 1966 and installed in a Cessna 150. it stayed with that plane for its whole running life, until 2012.

FWIW this website might not be what you need right now,
    but it's pretty interesting.
Sort of a "what fits what" all about continental 4 bangers.

I'm not certain but I think 530548 is the forging # rather than the crankshaft number. I kinda recall having that cast into a cheek then the part # being etched/stamped in.
I don't see many 4 cyl Continentals anymore around here.

yes, that number is cast in to the part, not etched. i’ll search for another number. flange had nice timing marks but no numbers.
