Paint schemes

Is there a user friendly software program to work up a couple of different paint schemes? I want to do my PA-18 and a club PA-25. I have an idea of what I want but would like to see it on a virtual 3D model.

Following and interested in the same. I am finishing up the covering on my Javron fuselage and need to zero in on the design. So far we printed a 3-view of a L-21 and have been doing it by hand. I realize how bad I am at coloring!

Scheme Designers is a company that will do that for you for a fee: www.schemedesigners.com Not sure what they charge, but might be worth it. Hard to beat one of the existing Piper “factory” schemes- there’s a good thread on here somewhere with most of them posted.

There are a couple Cubs here that are truly stunning (opinion). I saved the photos, and shall now attempt to re-post them. I hope the copyright holders do not mind the compliment!

Aviat has a function on their website where you can select different colors for their schemes. Although some look like a 1988 Mazda at a flea market, a few are pretty darn nice and will at least allow you to see how different colors go together. It has been helpful to me for sure. Link is below.

I took an image of Kevin Quinn’s Rev, made washed out black and white copies, and drew on them. Mike manipulated colors on the computer. In the end we stayed with the theme but added the orange component on the fly, and I couldn’t be happier.

I used an image manipulation program I dowloaded for free onto my Macbook.

I then took a screen shot from my Bearhawk Patrol Plans and copied the image to the program. After that I used the Eraser Tool to remove the lines I did not want and used the Paint Brush and Paint Bucket tool and other tools to create a lot of different schemes.

Its car-tooney looking but so is Scheme Designers. You won't be professional, every color is available on the pallet it takes time to develop some skill with it and creativity is endless. We builders are creative and curious in nature, I think you'll enjoy learning it.

One more thing, It doesn't have to be a drawing. You can take about any image/photo and manipulate it. Like changing the Orange and Blue cub in post #9 to Maize and Blue.

Lol, I painted mine Yellow and put blue and grey vinyl stripes and lettering that I designed online in diylettering.com….I’m a simplistic cuss though. Ha ha

Feel free to post pics of your Super Cub here. I have an idea of what I want to do but am a little ways off from painting. (Probably next summer.) This is the paint scheme I am leaning toward except in blue-



The Pawnee I am going to do will look similar to this except with a darker green-

Yes, I am blessed to be able to own both. Rebuilt both.

Developed the design in early 1990s. A mix of 1958 factory and 1970s for the front and lower.
It’s works great for the 18A cubs to flow the flat back into the wing color.
Dark wings are not so good in the lower 48 due to the heat. Ok if hangared.

Work in progress. The strip is painted. The side window plexiglas still has its protective paper on it. The checkerboard is vinyl. A best practice to a first time painter.....just do vinyl. It's a great product.
