Vinyl Stickers for Placards on my Cub

Anyone have all the placards for a Cub? All those little "don't push" stickers and other things that go all over the airplane? I am not looking for the physical stickers themselves just trying to find a list of all of them so i can make stickers.

    Thank you

It depends on the Year/model/type/add ons. Go to the TDCS and it lists all the placards needed also review all the STC's to see what they call for.

Marilyn at Aerographics is very helpful. I ordered all the Cub graphics, even a few custom placards for various STC requirements, from her and couldn’t be more happy with the product. Her email is aero@aerographics.com

Plus one for Aerographics- I’ve used them for several builds, and ordered more today. They have a PA-18 interior kit that comes with all the stock placards- fuel qty, throttle, trim, panel labels, etc, and then I just add whatever custom ones I need; N-number, stc required placards, etc. They will cut custom ones to match the font of the standard interior kit. I have them cut all the labels for the switches and circuit breakers at the appropriate spacing, so the whole line goes on as one sticker- super nice.

Remember you are the manufacturer, you determine what placards to install.

Also you can eliminate the big EXPERIMENTAL at the entrance if you place a X between the N and the numbers on the outside of the airplane like this NX123. There is an FAR which addresses this.

Wasn't this suggestion discussed and rejected very recently in another thread?

It was, and the rejection was that he had already made the placard and painted the number. Look up the FAR.

You have to be careful with using 45.22. To qualify the airplane needs to be an EXACT replica. No wide fuselage, left door or other changes to the exterior configuration. I’d let you get away with extended gear and big tires, but that’s about it.

The word EXACT does not appear in the regulation. "....or as an amateur-built aircraft and which has the same external configuration as an aircraft built at least 30 years ago...."

    Thanks Daryl,

Darin and Randi have been great to work with and yes that's the plan for right now to have Darin and Randi do the placards. My scheme may have some extra things and I am looking for some other ideas that are unique.

Always good to hear from a fellow legend Cub owner

    Cheers

I dunno what's required on a Piper Cub,
but a lot of the required placards on a C180 are kind of asinine:
"throttle push to open", "flaps pull on", etc.
If they weren't required per the TCDS, I wouldn't have them.
I sure wouldn't get carried away with placards if I was building an experimental.

In DAR training they tell us that “same external configuration” means exact to qualify for not having the 2” EXPERIMENTAL placard. You can pretty much use NX on anything, but not having the EXPERIMENTAL is the issue.

That's interesting. The DAR who signed off my widebody with two doors Cub asked his FAA supervisor specifically about my plane and was told I could eliminate the big EXPERIMENTAL placard.

Same here, but my DAR didn't even question it. But he did make me put a sticker on showing which direction to open the throttle, which I thought was pretty self evident.

With the 'X' as part of the N-number, do you state that in your call sign?

No because it is not part of your call sign. It is only the airworthiness category. Your call sign is the N number listed on your registration certificate. It is I believe in AIM that you should state when you call in "Experimental 123GM" . Preface the call sign with the word Experimental.

I had X listed in my yellow cub. NX142 - while it allowed not having experimental displayed, the biggest benefit was unknown until I stopped into a private strip in MA one day.

Guy came out and first words were “you must be from maine”. I explained that no, sadly I wasn’t and he went on to say those guys think they can land anywhere! Lol.

So it all went downhill from there but long story short he had called his girlfriend to run the N number, and she couldn’t find the listing anywhere, because she was looking it up with the X in it. FAA disregards the X in the database.

Who was I to correct him and provide the info he so desperately wanted.

Put the X on. Maybe it’ll save you one day.
