Thanks for the suggestion on the route and clothing/boots.
Regarding how my Super Cub is equipped......
I have the Sutton exhaust with the high heat output and it puts out a prodigious amount of hot air. So hot, as other too have mentioned, that it can melt stuff. I've learned, through experience and from other in this site, that air infiltration is a much bigger issue. I have sealed up the door pretty well but need another swipe at it. Some time ago I purchased the double lipped seals that Stewart had promoted and they work very well. In super cold conditions, like zero and below, I like to take 2 inch masking tape and tape over all the door and window seams. This shuts down most of the infiltration.
I also have the Atlee defrost and rear seat heat which both work really well. With all the heat on and the gaps all taped up, we have had to turn the heat down on zero degree days. I get it that this is not AK cold, but I think my cub is pretty well equipped for cold weather ops. But this trip will surely be the test.
I also have a whistle slot in my breather.
Boots and clothes.........Thanks for the suggestions. I am a Smartwool fan too and will likely get a few more items. I already have a great set of Carhart bibs that will probable be just fine. A bigger thicker down overcoat is on the list. I have a nice set of LaCrosse Pac boots that are actually pretty warm. I may just go with this with some new liners or I'll upgrade to some of the suggestions in the replies. I have flown a lot with my Pac boots and am comfortable with them. I'll make sure to test fly any new bigger/warmer boots to make sure they work for me.
And large basket trekking poles....I have some and will get them on the list. Thanks, Stewart!
Hot sweet tea. I like that. It sounds like just the thing. Thanks, Gary!
Already have a Halon fire extinguisher in the plane.
And I have heard MTV recite this so many times.........The stuff you have on you is survival gear. The stuff in the back of the plane is camping gear. I'll be sure to keep this in mind.
Now off to Cabela's to spend some Cabela's bucks...........
Thanks again for all the great info and offers of help. I'm learning a lot. Please keep it coming.
Thinking of launching around 20Feb. This gives me 11 days to make the start of the Iditarod.
