Fuselage shipping cross country

I’m considering a project purchase, not a cub, single place rotorcraft, located in Michigan, shipped to California.
20’ long x 7’ tall, includes several smaller components, I’ll load, pack and secure.
Would need shipped via enclosed crate/trailer/box van..
Any thoughts or advise on:
options?
cost?
services avail?

Snowmobile trailer worked for me.. I'd bet a one way flight and Uhaul or budget box truck if you have access to a forklift or help might be cheapest..

20' container chained to a flatbed trailer?

Haul would be my first try, if you have enough head room.

Might find an old Isuzu box truck cheap there in California, get a friend to register it out of state, haul the load then sell the truck

We just had a Stearman wing shipped - Minnesota to Calif. after much hemming and hawing with shipping companies, and bids as high as ten grand, we got Fed Ex to do it for pennies over four grand. Had it been a fuselage, I would have gone and grabbed it with a pickup, but was worried about a bare wood wing and possible Colorado hailstorms. I think it would have cost a couple grand with a pickup, not counting my wage.

I moved an entire J3 on a 1959 Chevy 8’ bed pickup, coast to coast. Easy.

When I had my Javron kit shipped form Minnesota to CA a few years ago, I worked with Joel Timblin on Jay's suggestion. He's restored cubs - so he knows what he's shipping. I can't remember the cost (might be a repressed memory!)

Given winter and the fact that some states salt the roads I would highly recommend an enclosed trailer.

Stewart Transportation bought out Tony Partain Trucking several years ago—haven’t worked with them yet, but I knew several folks who worked with Tony Partain on Cub wings and fuselages.

We’ve also had good luck shipping floats with a company called Logix. The shippers can be a bit regional so your mileage may vary.

Joel will be shipping my Javron kit in the upcoming weeks from Minnesota to California as well. He was recommended by Jay to me, and after shopping around his price did not seem unreasonable. Luckily he found a load for the return trip, which reduced my costs a little bit.

We adapt and overcome. Have gotten my in-laws to transport many wrecks and most recently a set of floats to the east coast. U Haul one way saved some money in gas.

I can also recommend Joel. He hails from WI, so is close to MI. I had him transport a project for me a couple of years ago. Reasonable price and a pleasure to work with.

I too highly recommend Joel. He has built several airplanes and transported probably hundreds. He knows how to do it without damaging stuff. Enclosed trailer.

Bill beat me to it!! That's the number I have also. It's a MN number, for some reason I thought he was in WI.

I was able to contact Joel this afternoon. As mentioned, he is familiar with aircraft, holds an A&P certificate and has hauled helicopters cross country!
