Not really new, not much in aviation really is. Birchwood AK (the MECA of flying) had a plane flying with tubercles over 20 years ago!! Great to see it expanded and manufactured on a production level by other flying venues.

Friend of mine put them on his PA-12 in the mid-'70's. Made them out of paper mache'.

Was this a noticeable difference or could he land slow before the modification? Do you know of any cruise or climb differences?

Sorry - it was a long time ago. He was quite secretive and didn't hang out at the airport. He did tell me he could fly straight and level under 25 mph. Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but I do remember watching him land remarkably slow and short with family and dog aboard. He was quite the tinkerer and probably modified the wing in addition to the tubercles.

I saw that orange beast years ago at Birchwood. I'll let someone else give an up to date report on those.

Those wings would be best tested on a scale model where build would be simpler. Some tests below
