A mystery!
What did these wheels come from? These wheels were on an airplane in the shop of the Gardner Massachusetts high school at the beginning of WW2. At some point in time the entire airplane was taken to the town dump except for these wheels which were saved by the math teacher father of my former chief pilot. The intent was to use them on a trailer, which was never done. He in turn gave them to me. My former chief pilot used to sit in the airplane when he was little, making airplane noises. Neither of the two of them were able to identify the airplane. I have also been unable to identify what they were on. I am convinced it was not a certificated airplane as I've reviewed the entirety of Juptner's US Civil aircraft series as well as numerous other volumes in my possession. My guess is a military airplane from the late 19 teens through the 1920s. The suspension appears to have been a combination of struts and wires? It also appears to have a mechanical shoe brake. I've made no attempt to take them apart to find out what's inside. They do appear to be in decent condition for their vintage.

Someone else may have taken the engine. I don't recall whether I once knew that information or not?

Does anyone have any ideas of who, what, where, anything? They've seen only inside dry storage for perhaps 90 or more years.
