Dakota Cub Extended Baggage

Does anyone have any pictures of the Dakota Cub extended Baggage for a PA18? I have the Atlee Dodge removable extended baggage right now but I’m lacking the STC. I called Atlee and they want $400 just for the STC, digging around on the web I found the Dakota Cub extended complete Baggage with certification for around $330. The Atlee just seems so skinny compared to others so if the Dakota is bigger I would much rather go with it instead. Pros and cons on both would be much appreciated if someone has experience with both. Thanks!

Is this a rebuild or are you just fixing the paperwork?

It’s a full rebuild; I’m fairly new to the Super Cub world and with so many options for a certified PA18 I’m trying to pick out the best mods and still stay within my budget. In my head it’s hard to justify $400 for a piece of paper when you can get a full baggage kit for less but like everyone says you get what you pay for. Just thought I would reach out on here to see if anyone has the Dakota baggage or neg/pos things to say about the removable Atlee.

Ok that makes sense. The biggest baggage is the Atlee weld in version. Both the DC and Atlee clamp in are smaller. This is the weld in version. While your at it, you might as well do the 3rd seat 180# baggage as well.

The biggest extended baggage is the Willow Mountain by Airframes. https://www.airframesalaska.com/PA-18-Fuselage-Standard-Willow-Mountain-Ranch-p/fuselages-stdwm.htm. I prefer the raised floor version in the picture above for sleeping. The key to using your extended is the baggage door!! Make it big as possible with no lip on the bottom as in the picture above so you can just slide heavy stuff in and out. DENNY

Thanks for all the good info fellas, the rep from DC wasn’t sure if it was for certified AC and he finally reached out to confirm it’s not. Looks like I’ll be going with the Atlee weld in baggage.

Do you realize that simply installing extended baggage is NOT a major and can be done with a log entry? It's the welding or drilling structural items that makes it a major mod. If you install an extended baggage setup with clamps, no 337 required.
Or, if you have the fuselage opened up right now, talk to your IA about getting a field approval for any welding needed for mounting tabs. The baggage unit itself is just a box that can be fabbed up right next to your aircraft.
