Folks,

FYI - Somewhere on the internet people are advocating that this is the way to install a windshield in a Cessna. Here is the response from Textron structures:
"We do not endorse the installation of rivnuts, but believe others (Cessna Pilots Association possibly) have provided such guidance in the past. Such an installation would have to be done at installer’s discretion and signed off by them."

And in this picture below, some fine craftsmanship from a previous mechanic. Its amazing work. They managed to expand the rivnut in between the boot cowl and the firewall.

Looks like they are c/s rivnuts and not properly c/s either. Not sure how you would even do that without knife-edging the metal. Last time I did a windshield we used used machine screws (c/s and retainer dimpled) and nylocks. Can you get away with drilling out the rivnuts, dimpling the retainer for a AN/MS c/s machine screws?

Why I will always have a job.

I’ve installed many a windshield without removing the retaining strips. Just has to be the hottest day of the year out in the sun! It’s not hard so long as it is trimmed properly.
