Last September a couple of friends went out on the barren-lands northeast of Yellowknife, one with a Maule on 31's and the other with a PA-11 on floats. They got a muskox, which apparently has turned out to be a world record.

Yes. The meat can be excellent or tough as nails, like any wild game. The meat that I've had has been very good, with the fat "marbled" in the meat, unlike tasty but lean caribou meat.

ND and MN Birds
Deer season is knocking at the door wrapping up a good fall for birds in North Dakota and my MN. backyard. Pheasant numbers were good, lots of young birds, late or 2nd hatch. SD I hear is ok as well.

A boat based hunt with Lilja barreled rifles. Unfortunately less deer this year likely due to winter kill on the southern portion of Kodiak.

I helped my neighbor exercise his bison permit. We aged the quarters 16 days and the 6 year old bull has been very good on the table.

Litecub and I had a fun hunt on Kodiak for Blacktails but as he mentioned there was significantly fewer deer where we hunted compared to other years.
Elk season in Montana was open when I returned and I'd planned to use my trusty .338 Federal for elk. After missing a 200 yard shot on a bull, I found it was shooting off and think it probably got bumped at the floatplane base on our return from deer hunting. So the next day I hunted with a 6.5 Creedmoor loaded with 130 gr. Accubonds. Luck was with me and I slipped a bullet into the ribs at 180 yards. He was mostly facing away from me and there was a narrow window to hit without ruining some meat. The accurate Creedmoor did its part and the bull never took a step.
I had some fun fishing trips this summer in Montana and Idaho and caught hundreds of cutthroats on dry flies. Many with my buddy Larry from Oregon.

Husqvarna, Sweden rifle imported in US by tradewinds back in the 50s-60s. .270 Winchester shooting Federal 150 grain blue box power shok, essentially Federals Core Lokt version of Remington line. I have other rifles but this one is special. Belonged to a great friend now passed.
