PA-11 Assembly

I just bought a '47 PA-11 project. It was completely disassembled and the fuselage repaired and powder coated. Came with Atlee Dodge dual 18 gal fuel, baggage extension, gear extension and shoulder harness upgrades added. Everything else was in boxes and containers. Since I didn't disassemble it, I'm having a little trouble finding an assembly reference with specific information. Engineered drawings are illegible, parts manuals lack specific information for components. Can anyone recommend a good assembly reference?

I would start with these manuals and drawing sources. They are all helpful. Go to fly ins and look at other J3s, PA11s and Super Cubs. Read this forum, search it, ask questions on it with pictures and become a participating and paying member. It is a give and take. Where do you live? That helps because there might be someone right around the corner with a PA11 or the knowledge of the airplane.

What Steve said. Spend a lot of time with the parts manual. That's really all we had when we did ours. That and the Cub Club fliers and great advice from SC.org people. I have a ton of pictures of the rebuild I can DB for you. We had ZERO experience and somehow pulled it off.

It's kind of like building a big model airplane. Make sure you consult with cgnesin on this site as he's done two start to finish.

The -11 is a fantastic airplane.

Thanks you for the response Steve. I have looked into the manuals and can draw some good information from them. Incidentally, UNIVAIR has 2 parts manuals; one is only 27 pages and the other is a 51 page download with up to date part numbers for online ordering. I'm more accustom to military and manufacturer maintenance manuals and exploded illustrations. This will be an enjoyable challenge. Regarding fly-ins, I'm in Alaska and those are few and far between. I do have a stable of airplane guys whose knowledge I can draw from, as well as working at the local Aircraft Spruce store (employee discounts are worth the pain).

If you are in Alaska, we ARE one continuous fly-in. Lots of J3/PA-11 around ANC and the valley.

Could anyone till me the difference in the windshield for a J-3and a PA-11? I am building an experimental, I have a J-3 fuselage I am Copying and I am using PA-11 wings. I also have a J-3 windshield I am trying to decide if I should use the J-3 windshield or buy a new PA-11 windshield.

The windshield has to go with the boot cowl that you use. The 11.cowl is a little lower and offers a little better visibility over the nose.
