2021 New Holstein Young Eagles Rally

Folks, we are in need of pilots and their trusty aircraft for giving back to the community (while investing in the future of aviation) by giving Young Eagle rides!

Here is a checklist for you to consider if you are willing/able to give YE rides:

• Be an EAA member.
• Hold an appropriate Airman’s Certificate (sport pilot or greater).
• Possess a current Medical Certificate (if applicable).
• Be current to carry passengers in the aircraft you plan to use.
• Have a current biennial flight review.
• Complete the EAA Youth Protection Policy, which includes a short training session and background check. Once certified, you are good to go for 3 years!
• Complete the appropriate Young Eagles registration form before the flight, signed by you and each of your passengers. A parent or legal guardian signature is required for all Young Eagles flights.
• Conduct flights in an aircraft that is in airworthy condition.
• Have Aircraft Passenger Liability Insurance for the aircraft used (owned, rented, or borrowed).

On the morning of the Young Eagle Rally we will meet for a pre-Rally Briefing at the FBO. As we have done successfully in the past several years, each aircraft will follow the same route, and it is important for you to attend the briefing. We want to continue to have this be a very safe Rally, and flying a uniform pattern greatly reduces the chances for conflicts.

Jim Big Deal Dickerson is likely to be there to give preflight explanations to the kids and parents, using a static aircraft. The kids will then be taken to meet their pilot and her/his aircraft!

This has been a really fun event and we hope you will be able to help us again this year. Thank you!

Did I mention that Jim Big Deal Dickerson is going to be with us at New Holstein this year?! He is set to provide colorful preflight briefings for the kids and parents just before the kids are taken to their aircraft and pilots.

You may recall a story that I shared with you a few years ago, involving Jimbo. I was escorting kids and their parents to meet their pilots/aircraft following Jim's briefing. A young Mom approached me, with her daughter, and she told me that she had asked the briefer (Jim) who the most famous pilot giving rides. He pointed to me, apparently, and she asked about why I was the most famous. Jim told her that I was an astronaut, had flown the Shuttle and had flown around the moon. I think he also told her I had circled Mars. I glanced quickly over to Jim and he had that ****-eatin' grin on his face. I was speechless...

Hope to see you as a Young Eagle pilot. Who knows, perhaps YOU will be the recipient of a Jim Dickerson Tall Tale this year!

We will need more pilots and aircraft, folks. Perry Welch and the local EAA chapter folks have completed the paperwork and insurance tasks with EAA HQ and he said the airport is looking great! He told me they have had 6 inches of rain in the last 3 weeks, to which I replied that we better make sure the airport is sprayed for mosquitoes!!!

If you even are THINKING about doing Young Eagle flights, please, please go online and complete the Youth Protection course…I’m not sure you will have enough time, even now, to be certified in time. We need pilots and aircraft, folks.

Just happened to stop in to see what I was missing out on and saw the photos of Jim 8) he has now seen them as well! Ha.

He is looking forward to coming up and helping with all of the festivities. I wish I could make it and help fly kiddos!
