PUBLIC COMMENTS NEEDED ON BOOK CLIFFS TRAVEL MANAGEMENT PLAN (TMP) by July 8th.

The BLM is requesting public input during a 30-day scoping period starting on June. 8, 2021 and ending on July 8 2021. Comments must be submitted on or postmarked by July 8, 2021 through the BLM’s ePlanning website, by email, or by mail. Please reference “Book Cliffs TMP” when submitting comments.

Email: BLM_UT_VN_Comments@blm.gov
Mail: 170 South 500 East Vernal, UT 84078

When you submit public comments to the BLM, you might mention that you are a pilot and respectfully request that they include aviation in this and all of their Travel Management Plans. Plus, in your own words, describe how you use aviation to enjoy the Utah backcountry.

There are the 27 airstrips in the Book Cliffs TMP area, from what I can tell. Many of these airstrips are in rough condition, but it would be a shame to lose them forever.

The map, below, shows the areas covered by the BLM Travel Management Plans in Utah. More of these will be coming up for public comment over the next several years. Your public comments to the BLM count and by doing so, you are helping to preserve these unique and priceless backcountry aviation assets. Thank you for your help.

THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR THE BOOK CLIFFS TRAVEL MANAGEMENT PLAN (TMP) IN UTAH HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL JULY 23rd BECAUSE AN INCORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS WAS PUBLISHED FOR SUBMITTING PUBLIC COMMENTS. THE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS IS:

blm_ut_vernal_comments@blm.gov

If you previously submitted comments, please resend them to the address, above. Please, please, please submit your comments in support of including aviation in the Book Cliffs TMP. Explain in your own words how you use and enjoy the Utah backcountry via aviation.

Additional talking points:
There are 27 airstrips in the Book Cliffs TMP area that should be retained for aviation;
Aircraft access is a light environmental impact;
Aircraft access allows dispersion of recreation activities;
Existing airstrips, whether open or disused, should be considered as existing access points and possible additional access points;
The RAF supports State Pilot groups like Utah Back Country Pilots who provide ongoing care of airstrips.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. WE RISK LOSING THE AIRSTRIPS IN THE BOOK CLIFFS TMP AREA IF THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PUBLIC COMMENTS SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF AVIATION.
