Fires near Fairbanks and around Alaska draw then annually. I spent the afternoon watching three of them roundtrip every 20 minutes between our float pond and a fire north of town. A huge pyrocumulus cloud formed despite their efforts. One aircraft (think it was 911) hit the water channel markers every time 500 from shore. This video says it takes about 15 seconds to load 800 gallons of water.
