My wife and I were out riding Saturday. I looked for deer sheds but didn’t find any. The elk are close to dropping theirs. There are some cow elk in the middle of this image.
This is my new Paint, named Jet, that we bought last fall. He’s almost 17 hands and a rock like in the background is nice for getting up on him. When we looked at him to consider the purchase it was a 3 hour drive or a 30 minute flight over the Mission Mountains. We asked the seller if she’d pick us up at the Condon airport. She said they were just a short drive from the Forest Service strip and it all worked out well. Later in the week we drove the horse trailer over.
Here’s the Condon strip earlier this month when I still had the skis on.

Goats, I had one land in Lake George and fished it out. FYI, they don’t float very well. More than one way to get wet goat hunting.

One year flying to AK I looked at the map and noticed the Donjek river under me. I remember that name as a great sheep destination in Jacks travels. Western Yukon border. One of his books has a incredible Ram photo along with a native guide and O'connor taken along that watershed. Sheep and goat hunting was at its infancy and rugged country becoming accessible with airplanes. Old Jack really had opportunity. I've got several pre 64 70's in .270 my favorite rifle for Caribou-Elk and smaller. I need to visit this museum, thanks for the post.

I didn't know there was a JO'C museum in Lewiston, makes sense though.
I hope that Salmon is keeping up with an Elmer Keith museum!
Both led incredibly adventurous lives & wrote fascinating stories about them.
