In NZ we have a current AD for the wire bail on the fuel gascolator as below.

As this is from 1957 does anyone know if there is a current FAA AD or SB, or if the Univair P/No has been modified to avoid the AD?

cheers Bill

Bill,
Do a search here on Steve's gascolator. There are a number of discussions. It's a nice piece of equipment and good people to deal with. No more leaking gaskets and safety wire.

Another vote for Steve's gascolator. Good piece of equipment, and a safety addition as well.

Bill,
Piper also had a service letter on this. It posted on here
last year, it concerned how to "correctly" safety wire" the bail arms.......
The inherent design is horrible as the more you tighten the
arms the more it is trying to pop them out at the top. Bowing the arms inwards from safety ing to tight will compound this problem. I had one with worn arms
that popped one side off a few years ago, had I not been on skis and able to land imeadiately the outcome would
Been horrible. Almost everyone of these still in service will
Leak if gently push on sidewise, often just while checking
them for water. They were "ok" on a tractor in the 1930's
But should certainly be removed off aircraft. Do yourself
a huge favor, grab a Steve's gascolator put it on your Cub, and as they say in the " land of the long white cloud"
'Bobs your uncle".

Thanks everyone, I found Piper SL 1141, and it’s what I have been doing all along.
Next time I need a new Gascolator I’ll get one of Steve’s (or when I win Lotto)

cheers Bill

I replaced two bail type gascolators with Steves. Do not waste your time with the dangerous old equipment. The old style bail unit on my 12 was a gnats azz away from spraying fuel on my exhaust.
