PA-18 Tailpost Jig Hanger Bushing

Captain Ron

PATRON
Les Cedres, QC, Canada
Hi folks,

I was looking through some drawings and in 20642 "Fittings Installation - Fuselage Tail" I see a "Jig Hanger Bushing" on the tailpost across from the lower rudder hinge. Obviously for a jig...but any idea how it is used? Do these appear elsewhere on the frame?

My experimental naturally doesn't have the bushing and when I saw it on the drawing I started a search through parts manuals, etc. to see what my plane was missing. Only at the very end did I notice the label in the drawing about the jig part. Now that I've invested several hours in looking at drawings and references it is difficult to walk away without knowing how it is used!

Jeff

There was a rail system in the factory and they used a hook on the right front wing attach fitting and the bushing at the tail post to move the fuselages through the plant.

Thanks guys! I like the paint build-up on the tail support in the last pic, it reminds me a summer job I had painting industrial shipping frames. I'd peel 1/4" layers of paint off my shoes every Friday

I lost quite a bit of time head scratching that one when I was welding fittings to my frame. Made NO sense, so I skipped it. Quite relieved when Pierce straightened me out and told me factory hanger fixture.

I figured it was for original production line purposes but put it on my project anyway. Came in handy as I used it for a while to mount to my rotisserie.
