A friend of my father-in-law passed away recently, and his widow would like to sell their Murphy Moose. It is located in Chino, CA. If you're not sure what a Moose is, picture a Beaver and a 185 having kids. Pretty impressive airplane - big cabin, drooping ailerons, float fittings, huge baggage area, etc.
I went down over the weekend to take some pictures, and here's what I can tell you.
The airplane is *really* close to being complete. Some minor cowl and fairing work to be completed, but it really appears 98% done, even accounting for the "90% done, 50% to go" factor. I've restored a J-3, built an RV-12 and am building an RV-8, if that lends any credibility to my 98% done statement.
The kit was a quick-build delivered in 2002. It was mostly completed in Australia and shipped here in 2013. Not much work has been done on it since 2016.
The engine is an M-14PF (400 hp) and was delivered new in 2003. Never run since delivery from RedStar. It was supposedly pickled, but would need a careful eye.
I don't know anything about the propeller.
Decent workmanship - not a show winner, but looks like it will get the job done based on a 1 hour impression. Fiberglass work on the wing root fairings could use some work. The panel is a clean, older IFR round dial panel. He was planning on flying it here from Australia, so is equipped with ferry tank fuel (and oil!) fittings and an HF radio and antenna.
I'm just helping get the word out, so if you're interested, please call the owner, Lis. She is a pilot and is somewhat knowledgeable about the airplane.
$100k, offers entertained.
