    O.T. A Little Idaho History

I just purchased a 1952 C170B. In looking through all the records, I see the original owner was the J/L Sheep Company in Muldoon, ID. The president was James A. Laidlaw. His father James Laidlaw came from Scotland and founded the largest (6,000 acre) sheep ranch in that part of the state. He owned and operated it up until FDR and the BLM took it. Needless to say, neither he nor his son were big fans of FDR. Near Carey, ID there is a Laidlaw Butte, named for the old man. His burial site is near there. Thank God for Google!

I find this sort of stuff interesting. James A. Owned the plane from 1952 until 1960. Then it bounced around a bit, but it only has 2700 hrs TT.

One of the desert strips not too far from Carey is named Laidlaw Corrals, now I know how it's name came about, cool.

that is a great strip. just watch the butte with an east wind and taking off to the south, it blankets the wind until you get about 1/2 way down the strip and then a true 90 degree x-wind hits you. The old farm stead still have a great grass strip, so does Carey. Watch the sprinklers at Carey check before landing. From there it is just a skip and jump to Peekaboo.
