Pussy in the hangar

How many of y’all keep a cat in your hangar?

My little girl has a female barn cat she’s pretty fond of. We are moving to a new place in the future and other than the hangar and house there aren’t any out buildings. I’ll let the coyotes eat it before we make a house cat out of it. Will they jack with a fabric plane?

You might as well figure out where you are gonna put that cat box cause she ain't letting the coyotes have her cat.

I have 2 cats in the hanger and have had several over the years. Some climb and some don't. Friend has 5-6 and uses shock pads on the horizontal surfaces.

My cat likes wha you keep in that 5 gallon bucket.

steve, can you fold up that bottom door and take a picture, would like to see how the plexi is fastened. if you have access to it.

That was back last summer. Here is how I did Kirby's. Fished nut plate through with a washer and safety wire because I hate sheet metal screws into blind holes.

I think if you keep the airplane doors closed, you'll be fine.
The old (!) tin building that houses the airplane shop on my airport
was allegedly moved here from Sandpoint NAS on Lake Washington back in the 1940's--
it was old then, and has more holes in it than a criminal's alibi.
There's been one or two hangar cats in residence as long as I can remember,
and no sign of any mice or rats in it -- ever.
Unlike most of the other hangars, at least the ones without any cat-sized holes in them.
Orville was the resident mouser when I first started flying there 25 years ago,
th
e current ones are Pratt & Whitney -- both black cats from the same litter.

Leave it for the coyotes, my last 2 cats spend most nights outside and we are over run with yotes. Even the cat I never liked unfortunately shows up in the morning

Kevin: Just look at the smile on that little gals face ! Go get a litter box---be nice to kitty---take kitty to the vet to get "detuned" so you don't have 10 new cats--have your little girl learn responsibility---feed, water kitty and clean litter box daily---you will have one happy little girl. Kitty looks very happy in the photo also !!! Just an old softie for "critters" geezer Dan

My 13 year old cat has had pretty much free access to the hangar from my attached shop the entire time. No problems with him sharpening his claws on the fabric or anything like that. The urethane foam sprayed door on the shop is another matter, we had to have a talk about that, his new chosen place to scratch the last few years is a large piece of driftwood outside the house from the Snake River I picked up because I liked the shape of it, and it was in the way somewhat on one of the many gravel bars. So, a win/win. Also the largest, though not the heaviest, external load I've ever tied on my lift strut, about the size of an ottoman, couldn't even tell it was there.

Supervising while I make a new panel. Haven’t had a single rodent (other than the dead ones they haul in) since I got them.

I find letting them start early on inspecting and protecting long before the plane will be in a hangar has it's value.

Inspecting here, I am surprised her brother shows no interest in the project.

And this stray that adopted us makes sure I do not get upside-down in my CAD work on the project.

This is Gordon’s usual perspective in my hangar. I think it’s his cologne?

Hey supilot----you mention rodents-----My first PA-12 (40 years ago) had been a hangar queen for several years in a marginal hangar. All looked fine except for old fabric. Thinking, now all I have to do is recover and fly. WELL--let the education begin. Removing wing fabric I found mouse nests near the wing tips. Seems the fuselage insulation was transferred to the wings. MAJOR spar and rib damage from mouse pee. 15 years later, with much research and this great world of airplane people, I came up with all the necessary parts and pieces and expert advice and help to have a really nice flying machine. Was able to enjoy a thousand hours of fantastic places and fantastic people. Much credit goes to this web site...…. COME KITTY KITTY;-)

The remorseless little killer climbs right up and demands - doesn't request - petting.

Rodents, A few years ago my wife bought a bulk pack of Irish Spring soap. I found that to be curious. Well we put a bar or at least part of a bar of soap in each boat and car in the yard.
No more rodent damage not to mention everything out there smells pretty nice especially compared to rodent poo and pee.

That last picture is too funny. We have an orange tabby (Rusty) and he is a total boob, a lot like what I see in that last pic. Quite the comedian and very affectionate.

Finally, Supercub.org succumbs to the inevitable and unrelenting pressure of Cats on the Internet.

Steve Pierce's customers had better check their bills carefully to make sure they're not getting charged extra for a CAT scan  That said, I always feel more welcome in a shop or aerodrome that has cats and dogs around.

Thanks. cubscout

Not exactly a hangar, but Halvor the top shop cat.

My favorite vision of Halvor is when I open the door in the morning and I see him with full cheeks and a little grey tail sticking out. 20171222_062832.jpeg20171104_145209.jpeg
