Hey northeast flyers, new guy with a 170 here. I didn’t get skis figured out in time so I’m at KLEB for the winter. I’m inexperienced in off airport stuff, but lurking around here to learn more. I hope I’ll get a chance to meet up with some of you this winter on easy, wheel friendly lake strips.

Here’s my story about the trip to bring my 170 back east from Fairbanks: https://backcountrypilot.org/community/forum/latest/fairbanks-to-vermont-23520

Hi Dave PM me and we’ll meet up sometime, I take it you’re building a bear hawk? I’d love to see it.

Not quite here yet, as of 10 days ago anyway, but after this current batch of storms.......?

Hi Pete, didn’t hook it up, I’m not too happy with the placement of it with no bulkhead between it and my leg’s.

Tom, I'm not aware of there being any issues with it's placement. It feels very comfortable blowing on your feet and the output openings are controllable.
The only issues we had was before the intake vent was placed in the separation wall between the panel and the bow. Yours has this vent. It used to pop the overheat breaker when running on high. That was not easy to reset in flight, Copilot's job with long arms. That plane is cold like an ice box without a heater running and when the windows ice up.

I took serial #one to Montreal and Baie Comeau in January. Sure glad that the heater was there.

Had the TwinBee out this morning, beautiful day but got a bit chilly without a heater.

FWIW there's a Twin Bee in my area that's been a hangar queen for a number of years.
The owner has someone working on getting it ferryable,
then I think it'll go to KAWO for an annual.
If anyone's interested in buying it, PM me.

We have one if not the nices one in existence, as I’ve been told be DPE that give ratings in the Bee. The heater has been rebuilt by the factory just before I picked it up in NC. My wife and I flew it home in 30* weather and I agree it’s a ice box. There are many air leaks on it. Six hour flight was a lot, we were wrapped in a kids sleeping bag all the way. I was given a box of parts to finish the install when we picked it up and I just never finished it as we only fly a hour at a time and usually in warmer weather. Do you have any good places to do water landings over your way? We are closing up quick here.

There's plenty of open water around here. We should consider meeting at Island Bob's in the spring. Was your DPE Doug Smith? He was F/E for me on the 727.

We did not see anyone over at S&Js mid morning other than an Enstrom. He came out of Vernon Vt.

I was over the field taking a look at it Sunday around lunch time. No airplanes on the ground when I was there. Field looked reasonably good from the air.

What is going to happen to Katama at Martha’s Vineyard when Obama moves here? Bill mentioned it’s less than half mile away?

Katama is grass so I wonder how many influential people are vested in keeping it open. Kennebunk permanent P-67 looks like 3 miles.

Here are some photos when flew down to Katama.
