Flap pivot rubbing fabric?

Hey everyone,

I've got a 1950 super cub, and have noticed this little issue where the flap bar pivot looks to be contacting the fabric. I think the oil is coming from the crankcase breather, but my bigger concern is wearing a hole in the fabric. Anyone have any similar experience or ideas?

Is there a cotter pin holding the liner tube to the flap handle? Found this one like your picture and had to use a tool I have for Cessna tail stinger liner tubes to get the flap liner tube back into position, drill and cotter pinned into place as Piper did them.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I need to get the inner tube that the handle pivots on, pull it towards the center of the cockpit, and drill where the hole in the pivot tube is and cotter pin there?

Is it possible that the inner pivot tube is already drilled, I just need to find the hole? Also, about how far in should that pivot tube be pulled before being cotter pinned, and where did you get that tool from?

If it is drilled you will have a hard time finding the hole. I would make the liner tube flush with the fitting that is welded to the fuselage. A friend made the tool for me. It was made for removing a similar tube in the tail stinger of Cessna 180/185s. The handle gets in the way for pulling the flap liner tube in a Cub but it did work in my case. You can remove the interior side panel and push the liner tube inboard.

Well, got it fixed! Thanks for your help Steve.

For anyone else that might have this issue in the future, I was able to get the pipe removed with an internal pipe wrench. It was too tight to press out from the outside, so I had to rotate and pull it towards the inside of t he cabin. Once it cleared the outside bushing, it came out smoothly.

Once i got the tube out, it already had a hole in it. There was some buildup/corrosion on the outside bushing, so cleaned that and everything else, squared up the pivot bushings (outside bushing was bent out a few degrees), some grease, and it went together beautifully.
